MLB Draft Talk (July 13th 6pm EDT & July 14th 11:30am EDT)

Braves have taken 3 SS. They definitely need a SS, but none of these guys will plug that hole anytime soon.
Disagree Lodise just won national player of year. He is really good. Good job by Braves. Miller can play multiple positions and hit almost 20 homers for ETSU.

8 guys drafted in the first 3 rounds. Also if you look you’ll see that our guys were under ranked.

I knew the Angels weren't going to go the entire night without drafting a Tennessee Volunteer 😂 Between C-Mo, Joyce, and Snead, the Angels might just become my second favorite team

MLB Draft is extremely complex and you cannot go strictly off rankings and draft projections. Teams are given a pool of money based on their draft slot and some teams are only willing to offer a certain amount while others are willing to spend quite a bit of that pool on one player. And then you have to account for the player asking for a certain amount of money and whether the team will match what said player is asking. It’s not as simple as the NFL or NBA draft where draft slots are essentially predetermined. So this is why you will see large gaps in where players are ranked compared to where they are drafted.

What I like about this class…you will lose all of em that go in the first three rounds, crazy stat…after that it gets iff-ier and in the past ya probably don’t feel much more comfortable thru 7 or so, but NIL is more established and ya just dropped 8 dudes in the first three rounds, 5 pitchers I think…an attractive proposition.

We’re open for business!!!

GBO!!!

I didn't say they were bad picks, but none of them are on the major league roster on opening day next year. It takes time for most players to reach the majors. All 3 could be very good picks for the future, and I hope they are, I was just commenting on the current team, and what the current team needs.

Typically, not always, but typically, if you see a player drafted by a team relatively high, that means they’ve already agreed to that player’s number beforehand. Teams don’t want to waste a draft pick on a kid, then simply hope they can sign him.

So for example, SD and Schoolcraft likely already agreed on a number before they drafted him. Of course, teams are more likely to take a chance with lower picks (happened with Burns out of high school), but you may also see a kid not get drafted at all if his number isn’t something a team will meet. Happened last year with some UT recruits who otherwise would have been high draft picks.
