Mizzou looks well coached

Just passing through....:whistling:

You guys are pretty much spot on with your Mizzou analysis. Offense has struggled this year with our new QB but he is showing signs of improvement staying in the pocket and making better decisions. Run game is very strong and our hope is Maty makes good decisions against your super hot team...

Defense is very strong and is the reason we are where we are right now in the standings.

Traveling to Knoxville on Friday and looking forward to your great game day atmosphere! On a side note I have a place to stay already but curious what would you guys say are the best, closest hotels close to Neyland? Looks like several are lowering their prices so we may try to grab another room. Thanks for allowing me to lurk on your boards!

I stayed at Homewood suites on Turkey Creek dr for a couple games this year. They have a shuttle that drops you off right before the Vol walk (which you should definitely go to). Pretty good rates and a good free breakfast.

P.S. If this is your first time at Neyland, be cautious. You may never want to leave and have a sudden urge to start wearing orange clothes. It's all natural though, don't fight it.

Mizzou will have to play a perfect game to beat the Vols!! It's a new day guys. We are back mid level, we may not be upper level just yet, but in our house Mizzou will not win unless they are perfect. Ain't gonna happen Sat!! This will be another coming out party to further advance us getting to where we want to be!!!

You don't go 25-11 (20-4 the last two years) in the SEC with Mizzou's level of talent without having a good coach.

You can make all the arguments you want about the East being down, but UGA, SC, UT, and Florida all out-talent Mizzou on paper.

Would have been nice not to have Randolph sitting out a half and not to have lost our starting center. That said regardless of coaching usually the better players win and for once we have the right playmakers making the right plays. With Dobbs and Hurd playing as well as they are and them meshing well with our desired offensive play calling then no one should want to play us or be betting against us.

Randolph sitting a half is a blessing He can't cover for squat. His run coverage is spot on though

Personally I don't see Pinkel leaving Mizzou. He's playing for the east for the second straight year and his system is in place, I think asking him to bring a program back from the dead is a little much considering his age.

Pretty much.

Plus most of the big name schools are looking for candidates that could be longer term solutions (that or ones who can fix things very quickly).

Thanks for all the replies! I have "converted" family members living down there that are now wearing orange! I also understand that even though I currently love the song Rocky Top, that by the time I leave Knoxville I won't? :)

Regarding a couple comments about Coach Pinkel. He will retire at Mizzou. He now has a couple grand kids here and I see him at their little league games. He also is getting up there at 63 and is paid very well. He has had numerous opportunities to leave..Michigan and Washington to name a couple. He is the most winning Coach in our history and I'm sure the statue is already being made. We don't get the 5 stars but he turns the 3's into 5's....he used to be a QB Coach and I think that is why you see our QB's improve dramatically year to year. Maty will be a real challenge due to his size, but he is showing signs of improvement already.

Thanks again...

Gary Pinkel is from the Don James school, and yes, he's a very good coach and represents the University of Missouri very well.

But, if you are looking for some hate fuel, note that he was a college teammate of Nick Saban.

Mizzou fans seem to have a severe case of little man syndrome. They are all so butt hurt that they aren't being given a chance - against little UT. The team they beat 31-3 last year. They crow about leading the SEC East and how UT hasn't been good since Boyz 2 Men was popular. They actually said that. We are not being given a lick of respect by these guys. Not even a drip of it. They dismiss us as a women's basketball school.

For me, I want this win badly. This expansion team and fan base can disrespect us all they want this week. They think they are playing LAST YEAR'S VOLS, who they beat 31-3 in Missouri. They laugh and joke about Dobbs, like he is still the same clueless QB getting his first start on the road.

I find it highly ironic that Missouri fans want to play the no respect card when that is exactly the way they are viewing Tennessee. I think we all know what to expect from Missouri, I just don't think they know what they're gonna get from us.

Nothing would be sweeter than to get bowl eligible and send this expansion team and its fans home with a loss, knocking them out of the SEC Title Game. Missouri is an annoying team - would love to see them put through the Big Orange shredder.

Missouri has two studs at DE... both ranked in the top 40 prospects for this upcoming NFL draft.

Not that impressed with them or their Coach. Very up and down considering the amount of jr.s and sr.s on that team.

He's been coaching there for 14 years, and he'll be 63 at the start of the next season.

As much as he's built that program to a much better level than it was at before he got there, he's not going to be a coach that the bigger programs are going to show interest in...mainly because of his age, partially because of the way he recruits.

Not really. Missouri's pretty much recruited MO, KS, and heavily in TX while he's been there, with an attempt to increase recruiting successes in GA and FL (and a few from TN and MS) since the conference move.

Michigan doesn't really pipeline any of those states.

Michigan went after CGP when either Hoke or RichRod got the job, but he decided to not even interview and told them he's not going anywhere.

His staff is very loyal. Some of the staff go back to his days at Toledo. Always been good at coaching up the talent. He's a strong believer in ignoring the star system and basing offers on stats formulas that Don James used to evaluate talent. He was OC when James was winning NCs at UDub.

Micheal Sams was a low 3-star. Justin Britt was a 2-star, as a rookie, starting RT for the Seahawks. Marcus Golden was a 2star LB. Here's a name to remember; Charles Harris (#91). He's our 2nd line DE. Charles had ZERO other offers. A basketball player that decided to try football his SR year. Same HS coach that got Mizzou in early on Aldon Smith got them to take a look at Harris.

Both played at Kent State and both were graduate assistants there under Don James. Pinkel also coached under him against at Washington as TE and later WR/OC.

Know what else? Saban's actually older than Pinkel:

Missouri must be one stressful job.

This is a reload year. We lost a lot from last year, in fact that is why everybody picked us 4th in pre-season.

Both DEs (Sams and Ealy), 2 of 3 LBs, both CBs and a Safety.

Yet, this Defense is one of the best in the country.

Our freakishly strong WRs are gone. Lucas and Washington graduated. DGB and Copelin have been kicked of the team.

RB Josey decided to forego his 5th SR year. Lost Britt and Copeland on the OL

The problem is Mauk. He's regressed, I think because he's been uncoachable. Impatient at moving the sticks, wanting to hit HRs all the time. That seems to have changed in the A&M game.

Yet we are:
8th Winningest BCS Program Since 2007
97% Graduation Rate
3rd Most NFL 1st Round Draft Picks Since 2009
