Does someone on here know something about the Mizzou defense that no one else in the college football world knows? I mean all of these predictions where Hurd is gonna rush for 100+, Dobbs is gonna run for 70+ etc. make no sense in a realistic way.

The Mizzou defense is no joke. They will scheme to stop the run and force us to beat them with the passing game.

I hope Hurd runs all over them and Dobbs does the same, but the reality of it, and the stats bear it out, that its not likely to happen. Especially with a backup center starting and the other injuries across the Oline.

Mizzou's Defense may not be as good as Alabama's, but they are much, much better than USCjr and KY.

I'm not saying we'll lose, I'm just saying its not gonna be the cake walk everyone here thinks its going to be.

I think the prediction threads are more rah rah than anything.

IMO, I have not seen many saying anything other than that this will be a battle.

Mizzou, IMO, is not a complete defense. They have a good D-Line but I dont know that their backers and secondary are good enough to shut Dobbs down.

There is something to be said about a team being 'hot' and UT is certainly hot at the moment.

It comes down to not letting this AJ sideshow become a distraction.

Our offense has the skill guys to match up well with ANY defense. It's just a matter of the O Line doing just enough and Dobbs being able to effectively escape pressure and throw on the run.

Our D will show up IMO - with or without AJ. Randolph's loss can be mitigated some by the upgrade in raw talent TK provides.

When Mizzou stops the hottest offense in the SEC once Dobbs took over they'll have my respect. Otherwise they're second rate.

No one said it would be easy but Georgia ran all over them. The strength of their defence
seems to be the ends with a good pass rush not against the run.

From a Mizzou perceptive out def. appears to be pretty salty....One game stands out IMO in testament to that ,now don't laugh, it was the Georgia game! The defense was on the field for 43 minutes do to 5 turnovers from the offense and the fact said offense never cracked the redZone and only crossed the 50yd line once or twice! Still The defense held UGA rushing attack to 3.6 yds per carry!

I'm not predicting a Mizzou win we are clearly a flawed team especially on offense, and being on the road we will have to play better than we have versus quality teams of late.

Good, respectable post... that Mizzou D is no joke.

Stick around. You'll get jabs thrown at you from our idiotic fans, but most of us encourage respectful rival fans to come and talk.

Welcome to VN. :hi:

Thanks I really respect the Vols and love talking football. I get that many old school fans of blue blood programs won't give Mizzou much respect and rightfully so....we are a good solid program trying to move up the football ladder. We are not in the club..but we have applied for membership but got a lot of work to do.

I disagree with an offense being hot or having momentum. Each Saturday is unique to itself and has no bearing on the previous or next Saturday. Everyone had TCU smashing a hole in Kansas and putting it away by the start of the 2nd quarter because they were "hot" but it was a game until late in the 4th.

I think this will be a low scoring game (i.e. 20 - 17) and probably determined by penalties at key times and turnovers. I liked our chances with AJ on the field, his absence will be felt and you can be sure that they will try to run up the middle most of the night when they're not passing.

Time for our offensive coaches to really earn their paychecks and scheme UT to victory.

I didn't know you held them to 3.6 yards per rush but I think that was their first game
without gurly.Missouri is well coached and we'll have to play well to win.I predicted 27-
23 VOLS.

I would disagree that Georgia ran all over Mizzou. That game was an absolute offensive disaster (4 or 5 turnovers). The time of possession was like 48 to 12 in favor of Georgia, our defense ran out of gas. As mentioned before we held our own limiting Chubb to under 4 yards per carry.

Our DLine is obviously our biggest asset. Scherer (MLB) and Brothers (OLB) are very solid linebackers. Newsom our other outside linebacker is a weaker point.

Mizzou's secondary is good, but not great. Braylon Webb (SS) is a very good player and our starting corners Penton and Dennis have really improved. Our FS Ian Simon is the weakest point in our secondary IMO.

If you guys are expecting to walk all over this defense I think you will be surprised. Our DLine is incredibly athletic and will cause problems even with the mobile Dobbs.

I'm driving down from St. Louis so I'm hoping for an exciting game on Saturday.

I watched Auburn shred this vaunted Mizzou defense last year in the SEC championship game and learned all I needed to know about it from watching that.

Mizzou is the luckiest team in the SEC - always catching other SEC opponents at just the right time for a victory (e.g., when key players are injured or in trouble). When they've run into a relatively stable, healthy program - they tend to get blasted off the field.

To me, this game hinges on how our team responds to AJ being out. If we struggle to get lined up properly on defense, we could give up some big plays and lose.

But I'm not worried about their defense stopping our offense for 4 quarters, unless that Mizzou luck kicks in and we lose Dobbs or Hurd to injury

So we lose because they're lucky? I see... Well I made my prediction in another thread and while it IS a bold one. I'm sticking to it. Everyone has their signature wins and then everyone has their signature dominant wins. I think this could be the latter for us. 38-10 Vols.

They're pretty much the reverse of last season.

While their offense was really good and their defense was good/not great but the offense scored enough to balance it out, the defense is now the strong point while the offense is just bad.

Auburn's advantage (I'm guessing you're saying they were blasted...though it was a 3 point game at the start of the last quarter and MO did score 42 points),might have been in the the way their offense seems to be rooted in a more or less a modified triple option. Missouri's coaches - at least that year - seemed to encourage/emphasize aggressive end play (probably to make up for the play of their DBs against the pass that year); any triple-option-based scheme is more designed to exploit such, requiring disciplined/gap-minded play - and really exploiting playing overly aggressive.

Their defense last year was far from vaunted; it just got a lot of sacks...probably were also better at forcing turnovers.

We seem to have poor def. schemes versus teams that run any type of read or option offense. We tend to look better versus spread principle teams or old school I formations teams.

It is not possible to be lucky season after season...
