We live in a special kind of Hell to have to listen to Verne and Gary for the 5th time this season.

I have a hard time believing that Florida v LSU is the 1pm SEC Network kickoff, while UT v Mizzou gets the primetime CBS slot. Love that my Vols are getting the spotlight again, but some clarification on why they chose us over LSU v Florida would be appreciated.

The only thing I can think of is that they decided this before the LSU v Florida game was re-scheduled for Nov. 19.

I think what probably happened here is Florida agreed to go to LSU on the promise that it would not be a night game.

Pretty much. You've got 6 SEC vs FCS/mid-major games which CBS can't show over two SEC teams playing them:

Louisiana Lafayette @ Georgia
Austin Peay @ Kentucky
Western Carolina @ South Carolina
Alabama A&M @ #9 Auburn
Texas San Antonio @ #4 Texas A&M
Chattanooga @ #1 Alabama


And 3 open SEC vs SEC games scheduled for that weekend:

Arkansas @ Mississippi State
Missouri @ Tennessee
Ole Miss @ Vanderbilt


So there really wasn't much that's appealing available, especially with Ole Miss's nose dive and QB loss (and I guess when it comes down to it, if all teams are unranked, UT is a much better TV ratings draw than Arkansas or Miss St, though CBS is getting a blowout).

I guess it's worth noting that UF v LSU was moved to this same weekend...but there must have been something in the agreement about the game being moved that impaired/ effected it in the selection.

They didn't decide this weeks beforehand. There might have been something in the agreement to move the game that impaired/ effected the TV rights and ended up pushing it either back or out the selection possibilities.

I think the limit is 5 times for a team in a season and I think with them being the first game of a double header this weekend they've been on CBS five times this season. Could be wrong on that but don't think I am.

So this UF/LSU game has to be the biggest game the SEC Network's ever gotten, right?

I believe CBS was prohibited from picking the Florida-LSU game because they chose to air UT-A&M before UF-LSU was postponed. CBS wasn't allowed to benefit from the rescheduling. It wound up on the SECN because UF only agreed to move the game to Baton Rouge under the condition that the game not be at night.

That makes the most sense, even though it would have been a 2:30 CDT time start for LSU/Fla, which hardly qualifies as a night game. This one is a head scratcher.

And I saw the full list of times and channels for that week, I just wanted an explanation for why they picked Mizzou/UT over UF/LSU for the CBS game. From the sound of it, there really isn't a good explanation.

**I would like to say once again that I am glad the Vols have another primetime slot game. I just don't entirely understand how, when two probable top 25 teams are playing in the SEC the same week.

I'm not the definite source on this, but I think that was the case up until 2014 (possibly the reasoning behind why the Egg Bowl that year got taken above the Iron Bowl).

However, that rule - if it existed - might have been changed or gotten rid of after that year: last year Alabama had 6 CBS games prior to the SEC Championship (Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State, and Auburn).

The rule still exists. CBS purchased the Iron Bowl from ESPN.
