Missouri loses 5th offensive lineman

I'd feel better if it was Franklin's shoulder injury that flared up. I dread that guy. He's struggled this year, but I fully expect him to throw for 300+ yards on Saturday and probably pick up 75-100 more on the ground. It just is what it is.

I'm optimistic we can still win, but my guess is that it will be a shootout.

The kid in the article, Justin Britt, is from the little town I live in. I was hoping to get to see him play my Vols.

Might actually be down 6 or 7 overall; they lost their top center before the season started and their top (overall) backup had a ending-season knee injury in camp

So let's see...that should put them at a freshman at tackle, a junior walk-on (though he has a scholly now) at guard, a 2nd or 3rd string center, a freshman at other guard, and either a senior or a backup (frosh?) at the other tackle

Edit: they're apparently moving a sophomore center to tackle to let a RS freshman start at center (so 3rd string center)...probably some bad snaps then

We couldn't get any pressure against a undersized Troy line.. This really doesn't mean much..

Except they might be playing a line of freshmen and walkons...so far that's allowed even Vandy to blitz effectively against them

I'd guess they're not big fans of "old man football"

Probably not, but to be fair, they lost like 3 or 4 of those starting linemen before the season even started

Their oline got bitten hard by the injury bug.

At this point i guess any positives is good.. I'm not going to hold my breath though.. I 'll say with some confidence they won't allow 700 yards this Saturday...

Missouri now only has 1 o-lineman who's started each game this season: (true) freshman Evan Boehm...a player put in due to (serious) injury to both starting guards prior to the season's start

So, all those linemen injured are still out? The article didn't say whether any of those players had made it back.

If they are still out and we can't get pressure then I don't know when this D-line will. They hung with Fla all game, but you'd think Fla had a hangover from the UGA loss that contributed to that.

they will all be all american candidates after Saturday.

Exactly... and it's a good think it's not the NFL. There's no way they have enough footballs on hand for those guys to take one home after each touchdown they make.

Not going to matter. Missouri will still rush for over 200 and throw for over 300 against our "D". Hell, Knox Bearden could go for 500 yards on our "D".

Missouri has struggled against "Old Man Football". Wonder how they'll fair against "Old Woman/Wash Woman Football"?

Well if we can't get at least one sack in this game I think I'll $h!t my pants and my head will explode

Supposely Jac Smith was one of our best pass rushers that started....well looks like Jordan Williams took over for him...so i don't really see us getting much pressure. Takes way to long for them to get in the back field! Id love to see their QB on the ground dazed and confused but i just dont see us getting to him ...i hope im wrong!

(if you'd rather the short version, read the quote at the bottom)

It's hard to tell, and you might have to get confirmation on it from a Missouri fan.

But from what I understand, the best I can tell is that 1 or both of the starting guards (who had bad (knee?) injuries before the season started) are still injured. They were replaced initially by Boehm (true freshman) and a junior walkon that had just received a scholarship Max Copeland (but based on the stat he might also be injured at the moment, unsure).

The center (they started off in pre-season with their starter out/getting injured) is either hurt (this being the backup) or getting moved to play tackle (so the third string freshman's starting?)

They lost one of the starting tackles in the UGA game (he was replaced by a true freshman), but I can't say for certain if he's back/healthy/playing again or not. They just lost their other starting tackle however (who will be replaced by a sophomore playing center)

They also lost two of their top 10 (starters and top backups) to a knee injury and leaving the team.

The best/easiest summary though might be from this article which was cited by the one posted:

So Mizzou is back down to four of its anticipated top 10 linemen entering camp, and now has this distinction:

Barring yet another quirky, fluky or otherwise jarring development this week, as of Saturday at Tennessee (4-5 overall, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) the Mizzou offensive line will have had just one player start its first 10 games.

Hey, all! Looking forward to coming to UT. It's been on my sports bucket list for some time. I've always wanted to see Neyland, and now as a Tigers fan, I have a reason to make the drive.

Our group is hitting up Nashville on Thursday; then, we're getting up the next day to drink our butts off in Knoxville and watch a little football.

Regarding the topic at hand...

It's been an absolute f'ing nightmare. This team has been decimated at the two positions you cannot be decimated at: quarterback and the offensive line.

James Franklin is not healthy... He hasn't been healthy since the Georgia game and our idiotic offensive coordinator decided to run him like a fullback. Our backup QB, RSFR Berkstresser, is simply not ready. With Franklin, we would have beaten Vandy.

Regarding the line.... All I can say is WOW.

To start this season, this was our projected line:

LT - Elvis Fisher (senior, 4-year starter)
LG - Travis Ruth (senior, 2-year starter)
C - Mitch Morse (RS soph, new starter)
RG - Jack Meiners (senior, new starter, but top back-up at both guard and tackle spots the last two years)
RT - Justin Britt (junior, 2-year starter)

This looked to be a pretty salty line with some experience. Looked... Before getting out of summer camp:
- Ruth blew his tricepts muscle and was lost for the year.
- Jack Meiners badly injured his ankle and while he's played a game or two; he's played sparringly because he can't walk without limping badly. I give him credit for trying. For all intensive purposes, he's been lost for the year.
- Also, our top swing tackle, Chappel, blew his ACL -- he too gone for the year.

That left us with:

LT - Fisher
LG - Evan Boehm - True Frosh, but top 3 guard prospect in the country
C - Mitch Morse
RG - Max Copeland - Former walk-on, RSJR
RT - Justin Britt

After the Georgia game, Fisher got rolled up on... I saw it happen... right in front of me. Not good. He badly strained his MCL and was thought to be lost for the year. He only managed to miss about a month.... but he's a shell of himself. He went from a four-year starter and an All Big 12 tackle to just a guy. He doesn't have his old lateral quickness with a badly banged up knee.

Then, last week, we lose Britt. Our fourth tackle is a kid by the name of Anthony Gatti. He's a RSFR. He did so, so against Florida... but now well enough. So, he'll get some snaps, but I don't see him playing a bunch. The new line:

LT - Fisher (who is badly hobbled)
LG - Boehm (the frosh, but has played very well)
C - Brad McNulty (RSFR... Oddly enough, he snaps the ball better than our "normal starter" Morse)
RG - Copeland (undersized former walk-on)
RT - Morse (should be starting at center)

Soooo.... yeah, it's been a terrible year for injuries. People can kid about "old man football" all they want, but these have been freak. You don't lose three starters for the year... before the year starts... and expect to play as well... plus lose other key back ups. It hasn't helped that Franklin has missed three games either.

It's just been a frustrating year... I know you guys know it. Even more so, because our defense has played exceptionally well.

Keep an eye out for #34 DT Sheldon Richardson. "Mr Old Man Football" will be first team SEC and a top 15 draft pick in this upcoming draft. A man child.
