"The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has specific rules regarding artificial noisemakers, such as Mississippi State University's cowbells, which are a long-standing tradition. According to SEC Bylaw 30.22.1.5e, artificial noisemakers are generally prohibited in SEC stadiums during games between member institutions. However, Mississippi State has a unique exemption known as the "cowbell compromise," formalized in 2010 and clarified in subsequent years, such as at the 2014 SEC Spring Meetings. Its complete BS that they use cowbells. The SEC rules say that fans cannot use noise making devices during gameplay IIRC. They use those bells to great effect when on defense.
‘Cowbell Compromise’ like it’s a treaty in the 1800s for land expansion"The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has specific rules regarding artificial noisemakers, such as Mississippi State University's cowbells, which are a long-standing tradition.
Under this compromise, Mississippi State fans are allowed to use cowbells at specific times during games, but they are prohibited from ringing them "from the time the offensive center is over the football until the play is whistled dead." Permissible times for cowbell use include pregame, halftime, between quarters, timeouts, after scoring plays, and during possession changes. This rule aims to balance MSU's tradition with fair play, as cowbells can create significant noise that may disrupt gameplay.
Violations of this policy can result in penalties for the university. For example, Mississippi State faced a $25,000 fine for a violation in the 2013 season, with the SEC warning that further infractions could lead to fines of $50,000 or more, and potentially a review of the policy itself. The compromise was initially implemented on a trial basis in 2010 and extended after successful compliance by fans, though enforcement remains a challenge, as some fans have been noted to ring cowbells during gameplay despite instructions."
This arrangement is unique to Mississippi State, as no other SEC school is permitted to use artificial noisemakers like cowbells in stadiums, prompting occasional criticism from other fanbases who view it as unfair" -grok
Why the half glass full approach? I really like our chances next week vs GA.Who else is more worried about this game now on the road probaly a night game with the cowbells ringing. Miss St. looks much improved this season. And if we lose to Georgia which is expected the Miss. St will be a must win if we expect to make the playoff again. Heupel teams also don’t play well on the road so yea i’m way more concerned about this game than i was in the preseason.
I’m taking this season one game at a time. Oklahoma isn’t the same team this year. Miss St. looks good. Did you watch the Vandy game? They drubbed VT on the road by 24 points. The Syracuse team we just beat squeaked by UCONN.Who else is more worried about this game now on the road probaly a night game with the cowbells ringing. Miss St. looks much improved this season. Not sure why people would be worried about Miss State after they won and didn't choke that big lead.Who else is more worried about this game now on the road probaly a night game with the cowbells ringing. From what I have read on here, you are the only one expecting us to lose to UGA. I wouldn’t say that Heupel teams don’t play well on the road, it’s just harder to win on the road, especially in the SEC. He’s had some good wins on the road though.Who else is more worried about this game now on the road probaly a night game with the cowbells ringing. Miss St. looks much improved this season. I live n mississippi. Been to starkville several times. Cool little place for a game. Laid back, plenty of parking, not shoulder to shoulder crammed outside of stadium. Fun little trip. But no, absolutely NOTHING to do there besides the gameI'm considering going to the game, what is there to do in starkville or is it a place to just go to the game and get the hell out
"Under this compromise, Mississippi State fans are allowed to use cowbells at specific times during games, but they are prohibited from ringing them "from the time the offensive center is over the football until the play is whistled dead."So if read this correctly,...... I, as a Vol fan, attending the game in Starkville, cannot ring MY cowbell, as I am not exempt? Hmmmmmm
Because I was thinking well crap I'll take one and ring it for the vols... but I guess not.
Some one beat me to my comment, but yeah MSU is better than last year, but that's like saying the ugly girl ain't ugly when the lights go out.
Lebby is starting to get his offense in place as evidenced by the 3 long TD passes when ASU was expecting runs. He still has work to do in that run game though...and yikes gave up 250+ to a team without a clear plan at RB.
