Milton starting QB..

He's not able to stop overthrowing the ball. He hasn't progressed an inch since last season. CJH has his work cut out for him next off season. We will likely get blown out in this years bowl game with Milton under center.
JM will get dusted against top 10 teams if he doesn't learn how to finesse the ball into a receivers catch box on medium and long balls. HH studied ball trajectory on short, medium and long balls based on receiver speed. Dobbs did this and was a master because he got a degree in aerospace engineering designing airplanes.

Raw talent is one thing. Being coachable is another. JM is who he is. Maybe we could transition him to receiver.

Milton has improved since last year. He was overthrowing receivers by 20 yards last year and now he is only overthrowing them by 5 yards.

Does ANYONE remember Hooker's overthrow issues? Bama, Tenn Tech last year? Spring game last year? Y'all thought Harrison Bailey was better...

Joe just throws hard, he doesn't seem to feel the deep throw like Hooker does/did...Just a little more arch on some of his deep throws would be perfect...Let the receiver run under the ball, instead of the ball to the receiver...But damn, he can throw the hell out of the ball.
What good is a pitcher throwing 100MPH + if you can't never hit the strike zone with control???? The same issues have plagued this guy for 4 years now, that should tell us something.

Did any of his receivers get jammed off the line, did they slip a bit on wet turf or did they slow their runs and cuts just a bit due to the conditions?

Y’all go spend some time in the wind and constant rain throwing a football 40+ yards and please report back on how good you did.😂
They were wide open but the ball was no where close to them. That's what I saw.

Yes he had some pure overthrows, but wide open doesn’t mean much on a spot pass or timing route if the receivers are not hitting their spots correctly.

I don't think it is reasonable to judge Milton based on the Vandy game . It was raining and Vandy sold out on the deep ball playing two deep safeties most of the game. Running the ball was the right call. Joe was 63% this season. We are comparing him to a 75% passer, not in a dink and dunk west coast system but a vertical game. If we have to have a 75% passer to win...there will be alot of down time between those guys. Hooker did something very special this season

Milton stinks and cannot be fixed he is what he is at this point a backup QB. He is not the answer for next season at QB fuggitabout it. I thought in the offseason they might move him to TE or receiver.

I could be snarky.
but I won’t.
he has been called that for several years now dating back to his time at Michigan.

Can I take credit for this new nickname for Milton, or has it already been used on here?
OK, so a guy who could have easily transferred and showed loyalty to the Vols and maturity in staying is rewarded by nicknames to get him out??? I'll be the first to say he's got to earn being QB1 next year...he's got some legit competition, but we need him to be "the guy" because we've rarely fared well starting a frosh/redshirt frosh during that season. IF the two guys in waiting are starting by week 4-5, it means we've already taken a couple of losses. I think he'll be fine, and in the ideal situation, he's our guy all season next year, while we build for a higher level QB room in years to come.

Don’t really care for nicknames bashing the guy. He didn’t pout and leave when he lost his position, he stuck it out. He’s a very talented athlete and I want him to succeed. As far as how he is as a person, I’d say he’s right up there with Hendon and seems like a good guy and great ambassador for the program. In his corner 110%.

Posts on this forum sometimes fail to accurately convey underlying sentiment so I'll just leave the OP's question unanswered.
I will happily go along with njvols ( above). At this point in the season..Joe Milton is our quarterback and I'm suggesting we support him 100%...PERIOD. This young man has hung in there since he came to Knoxville when a lesser individual might have jumped in the portal with the other 30+ players who split town. Coach Heupel will decide who will be our #1 QB and for as long as his choice is Joe, I'm 100% behind Joe....without snarky nicknames.

Coach Heupel ...................Pleas coach Milton to aim at his receivers knees. Then perhaps he will not throw over all their heads !!

There are fans who want to build up the program, encourage the coaches and players, and understand that there's a young, real person inside each jersey.

Then there are fans who only want to be entertained, demand that the team provide them with a positive self-image, and only want the players/jerseys to make them feel like a "winner" for being their fan.
