If I’m remembering right he ran twice and trucked the defender at the end, of course on one of the next plays after running he threw the INT. If he ran more often with toughness it could change the way the defense has to approach us now. I think his running could help us more than his throwing. Easier to run better than to throw better at this point in his career.

I was getting so loud hollering at JM being a chickenSh*t qb that Wifey made me leave the room. At halftime i went outside and met my 94 yo Tide fan neighbor in the yard and he was laughing at how bad our qb was. He is so ready for next week. lol

Thankfully it seemed someone challenged his manhood after those sissy, scared runs in the 1st qtr.

From then on, he manned up and ran well. Someone needs to man him up in the tunnel from now on, so he starts out aggressive.
He laid down some folks a time or too later in the game iirc. Man is probably not fun to be run over by.

To your point, it does seem obvious that someone has worked with him. It was evident in how he finished most runs last night.

Joe ran well yesterday except for not putting the extra effort into getting the first down in Q1. His rushing stats for the year look very good, and I don't know what his totals were from yesterday but he did better than most of Bama's RBs did against AtM.

Hope to see a lot more designed QB option plays with him faking the pass, tucking the ball and running with anger.

Of course he shouldn’t attempt to truck guys every play because of the position he plays, but I was proud of him. Joe’s biggest issue is putting it all together for 60 minutes and being consistent. We can talk about dropped balls all day, but a couple of drops don’t make up for the full body of work in these games from him.

He needs to run again right after he has those big gains. Right now he hands it off to RB's every time for no gain (it's like everyone knows he must do that for some reason). But if he did that several times in a row defense would get totally out of sync and would make it possible to maybe even complete some passes. But that is situational football and he has absolutely no feel for it - Heupel should send those calls from sideline and force him to try it.

Joe can run and is a nightmare for DB’s to tackle; however, he just doesn’t have the confidence to do it consistently. On those RPO’s, if he keeps it, he runs for big yards every time. He simply won’t do it.
Maybe he’s been told not to do it! I’m not so sure our backup is as ready as all the gurus are on here.

Hand it off for no gain? They had over 200 yds rushing against the best front 7 in football. Good lord!

He should have the confidence. Maybe they should make him a hype video of all his good runs and make him watch it every night before he goes to bed. Man, to be that physically gifted and yet be so hesitant to use all those gifts.

That's absolutley true as far as RB's having an amazing game (and oline blocking). HOWEVER, RB's had NO GAIN in every play right after Milton ran. It was almost like a giveaway or conceding to A&M defense that Milton must rest up after those runs and simply hand of the ball.

I'm glad they won a hard fought battle, but seeing them play tells me what they are doing at practice during the week. There is no variety in play calling which speaks volume about the confidence in JM. They didn't try letting JM run until the 2nd half. And even though we had some success running up the middle, many times that run was stopped because everyone knows what was coming = run up the middle. Why not sweep out to the sides left or right, , just to keep the defense guessing and not let them stack the box so much? We were bad in the red zone and that will cost us against good teams. Expand the play calling.

I agree with the observation. It seemed like his overall game was much better in the 2nd half. Even the interception was a good pass; a bad read but the pass was on target and would have resulted in a TD.

He doesn’t like to run.
He doesn’t like contact even though he is big enough to inflict damage to tacklers.
He often prefers to run out of bounds even if that means not getting the first down.
Yes, as a Vol fan, it is maddening.
But it is what it is. I have sadly accepted it now.

Afraid to get hurt.....

When he stepped out of bounds a yard shy of the 1st down on that 3rd and 8 with the defensive off sides penalty, I would have replaced him right then. If he's not man enough to lower his shoulder and get that extra yard against a 5ft 10..185lb d-back, then hes not the guy for me.

He cost us 2 scoring drives in the 1st half by not lowering the shoulder. Not acceptable!
