Wrong again. More often dropped by the WRs this year. You just have to be able to hit receivers in stride right as they come out of their break. He has done it on a few occasions - but more often - behind, over, late, ----- his timing on the bubble screens is good but teams like Alabama and Georgia - won't allow us to do much there.
I looked at other games this year even looked back to some early game in 2022. The time to score has not suffered because the time, at least to me, is more around if Tennessee hurries up between each play. That's UTSA. They weren't gonna win in any case. And I don't think the idea is to slow them down. They want UT to hurry up. Hurry up and have a couple 3 and outs in a row so the defense gets gassed and they can take advantage.
Didn’t you hear? This is irrelevant because our coaches say he’s great, and they’re de facto infallible because they’re coaches. It’s completely and utterly impossible that they’re being incompetent and negligent by not giving our other QBs a chance. Just as an example, it has never happened that a coach chose a particular QB as the starter and refused to give the other QBs a chance even though his guy was stinking it up, only to have another guy come off the bench, say for example because the starter got injured, and play a lot better than said starter. It certainly has never happened here, and these coaches have never made that mistake. This is not intended to be another Milton sucks post. Just looking at the raw numbers. His current QBR ranking is #63: 2023 College Football Season Leaders Total QBR | ESPN. For perspective that is well below many other SEC QBs, including Jalen Milroe at Bama which I find funny because everyone thinks Bama does not have a QB this year. Yet the QB they do not have is 23 places above ours. Just a reminder The formula for this rating involves the number of passing yards, touchdowns, pass completions, interceptions and other actions recorded by the player. The highest possible quarterback rating is 100, while the lowest is zero. I guess for those of you who feel our offense is off even though he shows moments of brilliance you really are correct. His production numbers are not competitive with the rest of the conference.
So you’re saying Milroe would look like Brady compared to Milton in our system? In defense of Milroe, I'm not sure they rely on the WR screen nearly as much as we do. That high percentage pass would push him higher in the ratings I suspect. What that says about Milton, I'll leave that to others to comment on.
We are last in the conference in pass completions over 20 yards and I think 12th in the conference in passing yards per game - that's not because they don't want to complete intermediate or long routes or because they are not calling plays that can potentially push it down the field. Connect the dots. This is the same offense that we ran last season.I’ve been critical of Milton, but we have been too conservative on our play calling too. His QBR would potentially be much better if our play calling actually pushed the ball down the field. It shows a lack of trust in our QB. If we don’t trust him, put someone else in. If he’s going to be in, run the offense and push it down the field. Screen and occasional deep passes won’t work. Need to throw 10+ yard intermediate passes too.

Hooker against Ball State- 221 passing yards
It’s both. Milton throws a very poorly placed ball though regularly. It’s the players job to run the proper route, be crisp in that route and catch the ball when it comes to them. That said no matter how much you want to do your job it’s distracting and mentally sometimes players check out when the pass is constantly off. The opposite is true as well though if they can ever get some rhythm and chemistry going then this offense could fire on all cylinders.Absolutely he has missed...but are they results of poor throws??? Example is the missed TD pass to Castles slanting...the throw looked high and out of reach, but castles was held for a second throwing the timing off...otherwise it's a perfect bullet to a 6'5 TE... is that their a bad throw or on the wr or defender??? Joe has missed, but I think his receivers are not running good routes, breaking late etc... hence why the OC is giving then patterns we've they sit, focus on the catch then make a move
It's because they are afraid to see Milton try to throw to the middle of the field. After is INT. last week in the middle to a receiver covered by 3 game cocks they quit trying. We have a very limited offense this year because of 1 position.I am still scratching my head at why we don't throw to our Tight ends more often. It's the largest target possible to catch a pass on the field. Forget downfield routes and just go pass the first down marker and post up (turn around). It's the most common play in the NFL..
I read a preseason article that mentioned Hooker and Jacob Warren never got on the same page last year. We should have triple the number of passes to our tight ends than we have so far, so I think it's more our play calling or scheme of the offense we run.
We have three great Tight Ends that can catch. Ethan Davis looked amazing in the Spring game.
Yet we still average about 500yds a game on offense. The difference is execution in any offense. You guys crack me upI am seeing parallels between Tennessee with Heupel and Auburn with Malzahn. With a great quarterback the offense is unstoppable, but with an average quarterback the offense really struggles. This offense needs much more than a "game manager" at the QB position.
In full seasons, every one of Heupel's offenses has been better than every one of Malzahn's. Even this year's #35 ranked offense (which will very likely go up) is way better than some of Malzahn's.I am seeing parallels between Tennessee with Heupel and Auburn with Malzahn.
