The surprise move came after executives in both industries complained to Trump about losing reliable, longtime immigrant workers in immigration raids and struggling to replace them.

it's just an estimate like they estimate how many illegals cross the border and are currently in the US.

the gov't is offering $1000 and/or a free flight out of the US to those who self-deport so the number may be based on how many $1000 or free flights have been claimed, Im not sure.

Also the NY Post arthor who wrote that 1 million have self-deported based it on employment numbers:

BREAKING NEWS: NYC's Comptroller and Mayoral Candidate Brad Lander is dramatically Arrested by ICE outside court​


New York City's mayoral candidate and comptroller Brad Lander was dramatically arrested by ICE agents at an immigration court hearing Tuesday.

Lander, 55, was taken away in handcuffs by several federal agents after he spent the morning observing immigration court hearings.

He was also there to 'accompany' some immigrants out of the building, Lander told The Associated Press.


A person he was walking out of the courtroom was also arrested. They have not been identified. The Department of Homeland Security told Fox News Digital Lander has been charged with assaulting or impeding a federal officer.

Lander, who's served as the 45th NYC comptroller, or chief financial officer, since 2022, was heard being told by an agent 'you're obstructing' during his arrest, AP reported.

'I’m not obstructing, I’m standing right here in the hallway,' Lander said as handcuffs were slapped on his wrists.

Border Agents Didn’t Release A Single Illegal Migrant Into The US Last Month — down from 64K under Biden​


Border Patrol agents didn’t release a single migrant into the US last month — a staggering drop after the Biden administration allowed 64,000 illegal crossers in the country in May 2024, The Post can exclusively reveal.

Agents caught 8,725 migrants crossing illegally at the southern border last month.

That’s a 93% decrease from May 2024, when 117,905 were nabbed, according to internal data obtained by The Post.

If you're operating a vehicle on a public road that is at least more often true than not. If you're just standing around merely having an officer ask to check your ID is not necessarily legally compulsory. In the absence of anything suspicious I don't currently believe even "stop and identify" states can compel identification. Of course the rub in that is sort of like the old "A grand jury could indict a ham sandwich." bit...there's more than a little leeway (more some states than others) for LEO to determine what is sufficiently "suspicious".

Remember they can pretty much always ask. If the old "So am I free to leave?" gets turned down then at the very least they are in a position to have to justify (convincingly or otherwise) why you are being lawfully detained.

Trump yanks brief reprieve for immigrants he said are ‘good, long time workers’​


The Trump administration has reopened arrests of immigrant workers at hotels, restaurants and agricultural businesses, backtracking on the brief reprieve they got after President Donald Trump stated they were necessary, good, longtime workers whose jobs were almost “impossible” to replace.

Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, said in a statement Tuesday “there will be no safe spaces for industries who harbor violent criminals or purposely try to undermine ICE’s efforts.”

Worksite enforcement “remains a cornerstone” of its immigration enforcement efforts, which McLaughlin said “target illegal employment networks that undermine American workers, destabilize labor markets and expose critical infrastructure to exploitation.”
The announcement backpedals on Trump’s statement last week on social media that “changes are coming” after farmers and hotel and leisure business employers had complained that “our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace.”
