Military TA

What's not to get? You enlisted for a certain job. Yea if you can obtain additional training to make you better at it they may be all for it. As for just bettering yourself that's on you, they don't care. It's not up to them to offer you the time or means to better yourself while you're enlisted. The GI bill, college fund, or anything else you were promised in your contract is all they have to fulfill & that's on your time. If you want to attend OCS again that's on your time & after you go to school on your time. The military isn't a free life improvement vocational school.

You, sir, or whatever you are, are very shortsighted. I do go to school on my own time. I bust my balls at work. Put my ass on the line daily flying. Go out on the dark and stormy. Risking my neck.

I get a hard earned benefit taken away, while others get to sit at home, do nothing but sit on their ass and talk on their Obama phones.

You can be the hardcore "you get what you signed up for" guy all you want. I, as an active duty member, and every other member I've talked to, are irritated, and have every right to be.

But it wasn't a "hard earned" benefit. Everything you say you do is your job you signed up for. No matter how hard you bust your balls it was an extra privilege not an entitlement that they cut to save money.

I understand what you are saying, but, recruiters used this as a tool. Mine sure as heck did. They told me it was a benefit I would have.

I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and I understand cuts had to come from somewhere. I, personally, am just frustrated because I am in the middle of a degree program with intentions to better myself as an entity within the military.

And, yes, I feel everything I receive from my job, whether it is tuition assistance, my monthly flight pay, and even free coffee from the coffee mess is a "hard earned" benefit.

I was in the military so I know what you're saying. I had the GI bill, college fund, & you could sign up for free courses. All of which I hardly ever used. Luckily I got a good job after but things work the same in a lot of ways. When I first started work where I am now we had great benefits & they're still ok. But every single year health insurance premiums go up & the actual benefit itself decreases. Bonus's we use to get for attendance, performance, etc are gone. Use to have a company picnic every summer & Christmas party every year, not in over 5 years. Cost of living raise we use to get every year has disappeared for past 6 or 7 years. It's like the only change ever made is to take & nothing is ever given back.

everyone has been forced to take cuts in the past few years. That's what happens when the economy takes a dive

One thing about it. It will slow folks for volunteering for the military.

Quit overpaying defense contractor and channel the excess into education funds for vets and those still serving.

R&D projects that have no feasible use or they know they arent going to use should be cut. 9 Billion to the XM-8 rifle that didnt see combat. 20 billion to the Crusader self propelled howitzer that never saw use. 45 percent of the Army's budget is dedicated to useless R&D projects.

I agree but where do we cut and who decides? Lots of political crap.

Or elected officials grow some balls and put tax rates back where the used to be, instead of kissing up to the deep pockets. It takes f'n money to run government. That is all.

There's not enough military votes but there are plenty of lardass votes who've lived on government assistance their whole lives. Our military folks don't get enough as-is. Cutting benefits from them is sickening.

I'm currently in the military and I'm not opposed to cutting TA.

So many people are in favor of cutting government spending until cuts are implemented that effect them. Then they just complain that the cuts aren't being made to the detriment of someone else.

This is my take, it sucks but that's how it works. Of course, running a scythe through the many superfluous levels of middle management in the public sector would actually have some meaningful results.

Can I wield the scythe?
