They have cut the tuition assistance program. Sorry for starting a "vent" thread, but man this is pretty frustrating.

Any other military guys on here right in the middle of a degree program like me when this happened?

I can't use my TA because they Army only pays up to a Master's Degree and I entered with that so I'm not losing sleep over it, but I know a lot of guys in my company were using TA. Hate to see them have to break into either the Montgomery or Post 9/11 GI Bills while still serving.

I was. I'm not that upset seeing as how I'm not taking classes while on the trail

I'd rather drop programs like this than anyone lose a paycheck. It all sucks but some things hurt less than others in the long run.

from what I understand it's DoD wide. I agree that I'd rather see cuts in places like this than a paycheck, but it just seems to me there are a lot of better ways to cut out useless spending within the military.

Quit overpaying defense contractor and channel the excess into education funds for vets and those still serving.

Yep, if someone would actually do it. But, been going on way too long and making far too many politicians rich.

Obviously, but come on man. No need to cut money that is being put to productive use by members of the military. There is a long list of crap that should be cut before this.

Thank you for your service.

Good luck in dealing with these arse clowns. Hopefully, one day the government will treat our service men and women with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Does this affect the post 9-11 bill? I volunteered for another deployment so it could help my wife's tuition.

I think this was an added benefit. Realistically all they care about is you knowing the job you signed up for. If they wanted the save money they could do it with more productive training instead of sending 20k troops to the desert while 75% of them twiddle their thumbs.

What about the guys like me who were pursuing their degree so they can apply to OCS? That is bettering oneself and the service at the same time.

Sorry, I just don't get it.

What's not to get? You enlisted for a certain job. Yea if you can obtain additional training to make you better at it they may be all for it. As for just bettering yourself that's on you, they don't care. It's not up to them to offer you the time or means to better yourself while you're enlisted. The GI bill, college fund, or anything else you were promised in your contract is all they have to fulfill & that's on your time. If you want to attend OCS again that's on your time & after you go to school on your time. The military isn't a free life improvement vocational school.

I'm currently in the military and I'm not opposed to cutting TA.

So many people are in favor of cutting government spending until cuts are implemented that effect them. Then they just complain that the cuts aren't being made to the detriment of someone else.
