Saw this on a Michigan board about Miles and thought it a legit issue they face.

I have thought about this coaching search and came up with the worst possible scenario in trying to hire Miles. What if LSU loses on Saturday and drops out of BCS Bowls contention? They may fall into the Captial One Bowl that has the SEC tie in to play against a B10 team, possibly Michigan. That would pit Miles versus Michigan and would represent a major conflict of interests. Michigan simply would look bad in trying to hire the HC of the team its about to play in a bowl game. That would preclude Michigan from hiring him before the game because LSU would not want him to come to Michigan until the game is over and Michigan would want him to come in December to recruit and hire staff. That is a lose-lose situation in my book.

If he loses to Arky and UT in back to back weeks not so sure if LSU gives a damn if he leaves Sunday.

I thought Florida was almost a lock for the Capital One Bowl... although I guess this could happen for the Outback Bowl too. Interesting.

if miles wants to go to michigan it will happen next week, not in the bowl season.

I would think that if LSU loses they would fall below the cap one bowl and land in the Outback maybe.

I agree. I can't imagine that they would allow themselves to get 30 days closer to signing day without naming a successor.

Wasn't some other coach in that situaton?

In 1969, with UT scheduled to play Florida in the Gator Bowl, rumors swirled that Dickey was planning to return to Florida, his alma mater, as head coach. Tennessee lost the game, and Dickey departed for Florida.

Miles would probably take the job the week after the SECCG and let Pelini coach the bowl game regardless. If LSU were to play Mich, it would simply be an interesting storyline for the media.

Rumor down this way is that Florida is in for the Cap One Bowl as SEC representative and thats under any scenario unless there is just total pandemonium after losses by both W Va and Mizzou this weekend, in which case the whole thing is in an uproar.

UGA is assured an at large in the BCS as is the SECCG winner. If UT loses, they are almost certainly Atlanta or possibly Cotton bound. If LSU loses the SECCG, its up to the Cap One Bowl to pick who they want. At that point, LSU would be riding a two game losing streak and UF would almost surely be higher ranked in the polls and the BCS rankings, too. Add in the fact that UF guarantees a sell out and you figure it out.

Only thing that might make UF a little less attractive is that so many would love to see UF-Illinois and if tOSU backs into the NT game that likely sends the Illini to Pasadena.

99.7 % sure the Cap One is going to host Florida.

Some Nebraska people swear up and down Osborne will announce Pelini either Sunday or Monday. If Miles goes before the bowl the ship will definitely have a light crew.

What does this do for recruiting? Anyone pick up some steals from this?

why is the capital one so set on florida? I dont know alot about the bowls and all. I would think that it would be preferable to bring someone in from out of state. The florida fans are going to be mainly just people in for the day.

how many universities have fans that would travel en mass to the capital one bowl?

The real travesty in that scenario is the fact that Michigan will likely wind up in a New Year's Day bowl.
I completely agree. I say that losing to a 1AA (BPS)team should preclude you from playing in a bowl game.

I don't pretend to understand everything that goes into their decision, but it would seem to me that the factors that would make Florida attractive to the Cap One are: ticket sales, television ratings, ad revenue. If they can get the Illini, all that nudges up a bit because of the Zook storyline.

The only thing that hurts would presumably be, as you say, that a lot of Florida fans will just drive in for the day. But remember that the game is noon-time on 1/1. Surely a lot of fans will come over the day before to enjoy some NYE festivities and at least some of the hoteliers wil be happy with that. Besides, the week before xmas and NYE in Orlando is hardly one where the hotels are hurting.

in sunny florida, in the middle of winter? plenty.

exactly.. I would be happy to go to Orlando in the middle of winter. Now strictly speaking of bowl games I think the captial one bowl would have to be considered one of the better ones outside of the bcs.

I didnt know the game was at noon. I do know there are a lot of people in orlando around new years anyhow. Florida/Illinois just seems like a big missmatch to me anyhow. With this season going the way it has though it could be more exciting.

I don't like Michigan or LSU, but if they end up playing each other in a bowl game, I hope LSU drills them into the turf.

Also, according to this article, Les Miles to UM isn't a foregone conclusion to the AD Bill Martin.

SI.com - NCAA Football - Michigan*interviews two assistants to replace Carr - Monday November 26, 2007 11:48PM

Maybe they're just going through the motions until after the SECCG.
Going through the motions. The fan base wants Miles. I don't know much about AD Martin, does he have the political currency to not hire Miles?

The zookers are a pretty good team.
