I think people underestimate how much Rubin will assist in forcing our opponents to defend out to the 3 point circle. He grew 2 inches after entering college and has more adequate parameter ability than our past bigs had while not giving up any athleticism around the basket. This guy is a real steal and nobody knows it just yet, imo.

By more adequate perimeter abilities, what do you mean exactly?

He's quicker, defends, dribbles and moves much better than our previous bigs while not jeopardizing the shotblocking/helpside defense/lobs from people we usually have in that role. Miles will fit better in this role just as Estrada should fit better in his future role at Michigan.

He is completely different than our former bigs.. hes smaller but is kind of fitting the role Okpara played for the team. Okpara was your rebounder rim protector last line of defense. JP was more of a help defender, offensive rebounder.

I like this look better on paper, at least. We seem to get outclassed by big men come Elite 8 time every season now. Better to have one who can make the opponent work than to try to outperform somebody better than they are at doing the same things. At least, it's worth a shot, imo

I don't think he's an upgrade to Okpara but hopefully Barnes can get him to Okpara level. SEC is a different beast than what he's used to.
I do think he is an upgrade even though I hate that Okpara will not be with us next season. Gives us more offense and quicker on offense plus , maybe,, a little more r,ange in the paint.

Best wishes for him fitting in at Michigan. Hope that new role accentuates his slippery fingers and knack for missing bunnies.
