Actually my name is from a quote from Zoolander.....except it is supposed to be "DERELICK MY

"

It used to be KiFFiNOMiCS.....but when he bounced like a chump he could Derelick My Vols....get it. Keep reaching though.....BTW Derek Dooley was Nick Saban's recruiting coordinator and right hand man.....I knew he could recruit since he did very well at LSU. Tennessee Basketball has been a hot team for 5 years straight even started hot this season...taking a coach from Wofford is not the answer with all that has occured now.

His career record as a head coach per wiki:

2002-2003 Wofford 14-15 8-8 T-3rd (South)
2003-2004 Wofford 9-20 4-12 5th (South)
2004-2005 Wofford 14-14 7-9 5th (South)
2005-2006 Wofford 11-18 6-9 5th (South)
2006-2007 Wofford 10-20 5-13 5th (South)
2007-2008 Wofford 16-16 8-12 4th (South)
2008-2009 Wofford 16-14 12-8 4th (South)
2009-2010 Wofford 26-9 15-3 1st (South) NCAA 1st Round
2010-2011 Wofford 21-12 14-4 T-1st (South) NCAA

He's on a run, but there are lots of non-20-win seasons in there.

Obviously not a big name coach or a terribly hot commodity... but, he is a great coach and I was just curious what people thought of him.

May I ask what your opinion is why he is a great coach? 137-138 doesnt necessarily coordinate with a word such as great i believe if i am not mistaken 137-137 would be average so wouldnt this mean below average?

They moved to DI in 97 and don't really have a good recruiting base in the upstate of South Carolina. He's done a pretty good job there and is a decent coach. That being said, he's definitely not a first option, but a name to keep in mind nonetheless.

Did you know who Bruce Pearl was when he was hired from UW Milwaukee?
Yes and this is the point most of the people with some basketball knowledge are looking for. Coach Bruce Pearl went on a successful run with a few seasons and was in the tournament and then the next time they were in they made it past 2 games. We are looking at hot coaches and people want first year wonders in the tournament and the real basketball fans want someone like Brad Stevens because he has done it and is proven. he was in NC game last year and is back in sweet sixteen.

My point is, small school coaches can still lure recruits when they land big time jobs, Pearl wasn't exactly recruiting 5 stars to Milwaukee and did well (on paper) with recruiting here.

I get your point, but when CBP was hired at UT he was FAR more accomplished then CMY is right now.

Not disagreeing with you one bit on that. But Young is definitely a guy to keep an eye on. I love how his Wofford teams have played in the SOCON and the tournament the last few years.

I'm waiting for TB to tell us who will be on a plane headed to Knoxville (as we speak).

Hey guys - I actually went to Wofford and know Coach Young personally. Mike's a great coach and has done a lot with the Wofford program...it was essentially nothing when he took it over. Now he's gone to the Tourney in back-to-back years and pushed really good teams to the brink in the 1st Round (Wisconsin last year and BYU this year). This is a school with 1500 kids and it's amazing what he's accomplished.

I think it would be great for Wofford if Young got a shot at a bigger job, but I'm not so sure he has any intentions of leaving Spartanburg anytime soon. That being said, I'm also not so sure that's the hire the Vols want to make right now coming off their best 4-5 years in program history (fair to say?) I just think we need to go a more proven route...and Young has some things to prove in the next couple of years. He's done everything on the shoulders of the guys who were seniors this year, so he needs to do it with another group as well.

Coach Young is a great guy and will be a good get for someone (Clemson interviewed him last year and made a mistake not taking him), but as happy as it would make me to see him be the coach at UT, I dont think this is a fit...at all.
