I did say MAYBE and I still say Leach is getting better with time and by the time he's in his 50's he'll have a few NC's.

He might want to win a conference title or even go to a conf. title game first and foremost. Maybe go to a bigger bowl than the Holiday Bowl while he's at it.

Leach is only two years removed from the Insight Bowl championship--I can't recall if that is played before Christmas day or not. I hope the Sooners beat this guy out of his one and only sniff at a BCS game.

My guess is that some of these Leach guys are just raiding the board. One's a VolVandy (how can anyone be that), another a LSU Tigers fan. I know some are regular posters, but the idea is ludicrous.

If we don't get Gruden, Kiffin, or Davis, there are better options than Leach. Frankly, I'm shocked at how much time has been devoted to guy who took 8 seasons and just happened to have one good one the year we're hiring.

Every year in college football some team does this. If we were hiring last year, all this gibberish would have been about June Jones, and frankly, June had more to offer. He actually did improve the W/L record at Hawaii. Leach hasn't even altered the W/L record at Texas Tech. They lost about 4 games before he got there and they continue to lose that many every year, except this one.

I'm also a Memphis fan just loyal to my state, sorry but UT is # 1 by a large margin. I do have 2 kids at Vandy and am a graduate of Memphis State so if that disqualifies me so be it. By the way , what 's Kiffen's record?

I happen to see a great progression at Tech that I think is special and would love to see at UT and after watching years of regressing Fulmer ball I'm ready for a radical change. None of the other coaches mentioned gets me real excited and I think Leach would have a Pearl like effect on the team and worse case senario we would be 8-4 with an offense.

Who's most responsible for TT's success, Harrell or Leach? and can Leach find another Harrell to plug-in at UT? I think he would be a success here.

Every bit of that is factually wrong utmba93. The bold part is spectacularly wrong. And your simply not looking at what he did while OC at Kentucky and Oklahoma. It only took him 2 years to beat Texas (doing it again this year) and he beat Oklahoma in 2005. He is knocking on a BCS bowl game this year and possibly and conference championship and NC. All of which is amazing when you consider the difference in athletic talent he has to compete with. This program has gone nowhere but up under him.

I ought to have Mike’s Pirate School. The freshmen, all they get is a bandana. When you’re a senior, you get the sword and skull and crossbones. For homework, we’ll work pirate maneuvers and stuff like that.”

I was very impressed with the way the Red Raiders dominated a very good team from Oklahoma State. I love his irreverent style. College football desperately needs guys like Mike Leach to give it some flavor. Having said all that, I just don’t see Leach as the next head coach at Tennessee. Oh, the football part of the equation would be fine. His quarterbacks throw for about 400 yards a game and he’s gotten to the point now where he has a solid running game and a pretty decent defense. Leach has a law degree from Pepperdine. He is known to take his post-game media sessions off on tangents that few can follow. In short, we in the media would love the guy. Okay. Show me the turnaround in the won/loss record. The 9-3 season in 1995 is as good or better than any one he's had except this year. One year does not a turnaround make. We had a 10 win season from a coach we just let go.

Why on earth would we hire someone who, as another poster put it, who makes his living off of 7 to 9 win seasons with 3 to 5 losses?

You mean winning 5 out of 8 bowl appearances?...That's pretty darn good...But then again, A lot of you want that coach with the 5-15 record so it cracks me up when I see stuff like this:eek:lol:

The guy lost the Galleyfurniture.com bowl, the Alamo Bowl, and the Cotton (to a pre-Saban Alabama team). He can't beat Bama without Saban. And, if you want to know how many points his offense will put up in a league with defenses, there's your indicator (13). Our hapless 2005 offense scored 3 points and lost by the same margin to that Bama team as did one of Leach's best teams. I can't see how you think he could beat Alamaba with Saban.

He won the Tangerine, Houston, Insight, Holiday, and Gator Bowl, but that's the pinnacle of his success to date... and that falls well short of UT expectations.

Nick Saban accomplished squat before his big break at LSU

his record at Michigan State was 34-24-1

his bowl appearances: Independence, Aloha, Sun
record: 0-3


some of you guys are basically saying that because Leach hasn't taken a lowly Texas Tech program to the same status as Texas and Oklahoma in 9 seasons, he's not worthy to coach at Tennessee

no use in arguing. If you can't recognize untapped coaching potential, then you can't be persuaded
