Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

I think Leach is an excellent coach, my only concern is why would he leave a school that is for sure going to give him a substantial raise and where the pressure is VERY minimal. He has no ties to our school that I know of. I just don't see him coming here, I could be wrong.

I doubt the raise being "substantial" we could offer him a ton more.

We are not going to get anyone who has ties to our school...Those days are really about over unless you want to hire Randy Sanders as HC :eek:lol:...Time to move on to bigger and better plains :good!:

I live out here in Leach country...he's a whack job. He's an 8-4 man about every year...although he's only been 3 plays away every year from having the year he's having right now. He's never even won his division in his conference. We can do better than Leach.

blah blah blah...proven winner in the Little 12 where defense is an afterthought unless your name is Bevo or Boomer and they have not been impressive on defense as of late either. entertaining yes, for about 30 seconds and then he puts up life size pirates in his office. this dude is a nutjob and should never coach in the SEC. let me say that again, SEC.

i think we could use that pirate type attitude on the sideline given our current lack of emotion in games. Swashbuckling, take no prisoners, fight to the last man....those are pirate qualities a coach should have to get the players excited.

Let me guess Urban Meyer shouldn't be in the SEC either. I think Leach would be a good fit. You can't tell me you wouldn't love to watch us score 50+ points 5-7 times a year.

Mike Leach should be at the top of the list:
Under 50 years old.
Success as a head coach at a bcs school and big time conference.
Has had success in the SEC as offensive coordinator at Ky.
His style of football is exiting to watch.
Reasonable buyout.
We can easily give him a big raise and not give away the store.

A lot of the other candidates mentioned don't have consistant winning records like Mike Leach or for that matter Phillip Fulmer.

When you made this statement, it reminded me of what I heard on the sports monster yesterday. Since 2000, there has only been 1 season that Mike Leach has won more games than Fulmer. But, he didn't lay an egg in any year either like Fulmer did in 2005. He has been fairly consistent. I just thought that it was interesting. Texas Tech didn't have the athletes that UT did either, however they are not playing in the tough SEC.

Leach's system has already been tested in the SEC...

Hal Mumme wasn't too successful. (with Leach his OC)

Don't forget that he can recruit Texas, one of the most fertile football states. Not sure he's the right guy, but certainly worth a close look.

I hope Mike Leach is not our next HC. I would prefer a HC who I can feel pretty confidently will not end up in a insane asylum. Besides, I don't think the spread offense is right for Tennessee and the days of good defense would be over.

Why does everyone call Leach a pirate?

He is a pirate fanatic...The guy has a personality like nobody I have ever seen before, I mean he goes on the news and does the weather forecast before the game :eek:lol: Gives dating tips...He's one of a kind for sure and would be a major hit here at UT...He's just crazy enough to scare the big boys....Don't let him fool you though, he is a hard nosed demanding coach.
