Mike Leach (Texas Tech)

If he comes you can kiss any of our RB'S in the upcoming recruiting class bye bye.

Yes because he hates to run the ball. He has never made any running backs better. Fargas suffered greatly because of him. And the line at Oakland stunk after he got there. You know they could barely move it. I could go on. cough!! sarcasm

The fact is if you watch Raider games which I am doomed to as a fan. Kiffin made them a whole lot better. And he loves to run the ball. I am not a Kiffin guy. The fact is his teams did not close games. But they could play three quarters with anyone. I do not know the why. But it is what it is. He would not be a disaster, because he can recruit with anyone, as a hire but do not know if he would be a great success either.

I thought this was the Leach thread ? If it isn't I apologize. Kiffin sucks also anyway.

You can't really tell me that Leach accomplishments outside this year that impress you.

Kiffin is a great recruiter and will bring a great staff. If someone thinks enough of you to give you an NFL job at 33, you know you're good.

We will agree to disagree, my friend

Name all the coaches on the planet who would have Oakland doing much better. I think you may be able to list about 3.

lol what the hell has Kiffin done? You people crack me up! All you ever read about Kiffin is "well if he brings his dad, well if he brings so and so, well if he brings Santa Claus". He hasn't coached one down in college. He was given his first college job as a favor for his dad. That's been broadcasted more times than you could count. Again I ask, what has Kiffin done that you'd take him, yet wouldn't take an offensive mastermind like Leach?

What the hell has Leach did outside of this year? Coached a bunch of 8 win teams. I'm pretty sure we just got rid of a coach that did that. I'm also pretty sure that Leach can't recruit worth jack in a state full of talent. Leach won't last 5 seasons at UT. We won't give him 9 years to have one good year.

Because some people are able to look at more than just one season when deciding the quality of a candidate.

You, me or my little sister can recruite to USC. You want a HC who can do more with less in a BCS conf. or a recruiter? i cant see paying 2.5 mil plus for a recruiter. Sorry I guess I'm just that dumb.

Right. Tell me how the recruiting was doing before Kiffin was on the staff?

Man if you can't see what kind of job Leach has done at every school he has coached at, then you've lived under a rock with the rest of the detractors. Every, and I mean EVERY, current or former coach when asked about Leach has said the same thing. Just because he isn't "pretty enough" for some of you, you automatically want to down the man. I promise you, if Butch Davis, Lane Kiffin, or Bill Cowher had've done the same job, you'd be slobbering all over yourself hoping he would come here. It's rediculous. I don't have a certain coach that I'm hoping for, I'll support whoever it is, but this Leach bashing is the most ignorant stuff I've ever read in my life. I'll take the word from other coaches and people in the know, and trust their judgement and trust my own eyes and what I've seen him do over the years. It hasn't just been "this year". Wake up and watch some football other than the SEC and you might realize that.

What has he done? Create high scoring teams that don't play defense. There is other football than the SEC. They just play awful defense compared to the SEC. Why would you even mention Gruden, Cowher, and Leach in the same argument?
Are you surprised that coaches are saying good things about Leach when he is having a good year? That doesn't mean a lot.

Under Mike Leach, Texas Tech has been known for its high-scoring offense and come-from-behind victories. A 70–35 win over heavily favored TCU in 2004 began with TCU leading 21–0 with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter. Before Tech's scoring drives started, a TCU defensive back was caught mouthing into a TV camera, "They aren't going to score." Later in the season, Texas Tech beat Nebraska, 70–10, forcing the Cornhuskers to give up more points in a single game than they had before in their 114-year history. In 2005, the Red Raiders were losing to Kansas State, 13–10, late in the second quarter but won the game 59–20. Also in 2005, Tech had a halftime lead of 14–10 over Texas A&M. By the end of the game, they increased the margin to 56–17. It was the Aggies' worst loss to the Red Raiders in the 64-year-old series.[5] During the 2005 game against Texas A&M, Fox Sports Net featured a segment that focused on Leach's affinity for pirates.

Leach also coached the biggest comeback in NCAA Division 1-A history in the 2006 Insight Bowl versus the University of Minnesota. With Texas Tech trailing 38–7 in the third quarter, the Red Raiders shocked the Golden Gophers 44–41 in overtime, breaking the previous record for largest comeback in bowl game history with 31 points, topping BYU's 28 point comeback against SMU in the 1980 Holiday Bowl. In addition, Leach won the 2008 Gator Bowl after trailing 28–14 with 3:39 remaining, to win 31–28
