Mike Keith Is As Good As Advertised

kesling was a bad choice from day 1. imagine if Keith had got the job he could have broadcast Tennessee games for more decades than Ward!

granted Kesling was broadcasting during some truly awful years at Tennessee and so the negative connotation stuck.
It finally occurred to me. If the power that be who chose Bob to replace John were also involved in the choosing of coaches? It is no wonder we had truly awful years.

1.That’s right. Number one Bob has been unfairly criticized during most of his time by our fans it was never really given a chance by most of them.
2. Bob maybe lost some of his zeal the last few years.
3. Mike Keith is an upgrade. All three of these things can be true at the same time.

Keith being an upgrade does not necessarily mean Bob was bad. He would be an upgrade over most just like anyone that followed, the Ward would have been a downgrade. I don’t agree with those that feel like they have to tear down one to build up the other. People feel the need Riley work an attack on Kesling in to anything and I’ve never understood it. Childish names like “Blob”, etc. it’s pathetic. If you think was bad, then that’s fine, I just don’t get the venom. We are talking about a guy who broadcasts games. It doesn’t affect your life that much in the grand scheme
No, Bob kesling was terrible!

I think he’s good, but I didnt like how he overdoes/forced it even when he was doing Farragut /high school games in the 90’s. Didnt like it with the Titans. Some do. That’s fine. I think he does a good job, but every broadcaster may have a couple things that we don’t like. Bob and Mike are different personalities and Mike is much more outgoing and even somewhat more of a promoter. He’s a fan when he calls it as Bob seemed to try hard not to be, which I don’t understand. When I do games for a team, I call it like a fan in many ways. Im small time though, and even that’s generous.

For me, with Bob, it was not updating enough score and time of bball games when I had to rely on radio broadcasts. I very much appreciate his time doing JP games, at WBIR, and what he did at Vol Network. He’s been a part of my sports fandom for 40 years, so I guess I am sentimental about it. Cant detach him from many fond memories and appreciate how he “went about his bizness”(in Johnny Majors’ voice) and just hate that he’s had to hear so much criticism for his entire tenure. Not fair, imo.
Totally agree and always to each they own...I just didn't love him on the calls...it just didn't sound "right" but over the years it'll grow on me...just not a big fan ATM. Cheers

I thought it was good from the parts that I heard. However,, I am one of apparently seven people who did not think Kesling was bad. I think people really exaggerated when criticizing him, because of who he followed.
I agree, Kesling was never going to capture the hearts of people because of who he followed. It is awfully hard to immediately follow a legend. Mike Keith does not have that same pressure that Kesling had, but he is so fun to listen to.

A large segment of fans(as seen on this thread) were mad Keith wasn’t Ward’s replacement. So their perspective was always going to be tainted for that reason. It’s only natural. It’s fine. I don’t care if people don’t like how he called games. Im more bothered by 25 years of constant bashing, more amplified the last few years, of course. Someone could make a post about something and these dudes would work in a “Blob” shot like it was some clever and original nickname. It was dumb then and it’s dumb now, and it shows that it’s not just about how he called games, there is vitriol involved, and that seems absurd.

I thought Ramon Foster was good today. Very Impressed. He and Keith had put in lots of hours to have that kind of dynamic.

Yeah Ramon did well. However,(this might be my dead parents getting in my ear), he needs to not use the word sucks too often. However, if it truly and blatantly sucks? Knock yourself out.

Mike Keith calls a game like it’s more than just relaying information. He was entertaining and enthusiastic. Keith and Foster were refreshing. I prefer to listen to Tennessee fans call a game over network commentators any day.

It was pure joy to my ears listening to him today. He is a master of his craft.

What do yall think? I'll hang up and listen.
Keith was fun and one could almost see the game as John Ward used to do for us. I give MK credit, in his last job he made an unlikeable boring team almost redeemable. Glad he finally got to be the voice of THE Tn football team.

I'm not near Knoxville so i can't pick up the radio feed, but was listening to Westwood 1 and at halftime of the Ohio State/Texas game they played Vol highlight of the 73 yard td and guy said "That's Bob Kesling of the Vol radio network" and I thought "that ain't Bob Kesling." Westwood 1 hasn't gotten the memo of no more Bob obviously. The call was awesome and I wondered who it was. Now i know. HUGE upgrade. What a turn of events.

Greatest opportunity in Kesling's career and he goes with.."Just makes it over the UPRIGHT." Crossbar Bob...it's a crossbar.
