Mike Houston at James Madison!!

Houston is a hell of a coach but could he handle the bigtime spotlight being on him all the time and could he recruit SEC caliber players?...If so he would be one hell of a hire..A pure diamond in the rough for sure...He has only lost ONE GAME at JMU...Wow

Ohio State said the same thing about Jim Tressell. Solid coach, can build a program and wins.

He's a risk, but I'd be willing to take him over some perrenial 7-5,8-4 type with P5 experience..... maybe even over a high profile coordinator. Why not at this point? He could end up being a natural.

If we're going to reach for a coach, at least reach for a guy who **might** actually be a championship caliber coach.

There's no difference between a coach that goes 3-9 and one that goes 7-5. Either one only makes it three years here.

Dave Doeren, Mike Bobo, Chad Morris, etc. are all annual 7-5 guys, while Mike Houston might be a 3-9, might be SEC Championship caliber.

Take the risk, and let's ride. At least give me hope that we have a chance to be good again.

This!! And yes this is a precedent of a coach successfully transitioning from FCS to FCS. His name is Jim Tressel!

I have met Houston and heard him speak as well as watched him here in Virginia and this guy is GOOD! He and his staff have been rumored to be ready to go make the jump to a big time program. Several guys on staff are D1 veterans in the coaching ranks. Not saying hes the 1 but hey the AD has turned this into a $&(+ storm and something needs to be done. Hell Im in favor of Kiffin coming back at this point!
It's James Madison dude come on its an sec job it would be like leaving the boy scouts and going straight to the marines Mike Houston glorified juco coach

If we are going to go after a lower tier coach(which is all that would consider us at this point)...... This is the dude!! Go get him. Hes a winner everywhere hes been!

Or Lane!!

Shut up! They are not going after a young guy with upside but rather get some retread who will be fired in 3-4 years. :banghead2:

not saying he can't coach but there are still several other coaches available that would take this job...Mr. Currie has got to work a little harder and earn some of that money he's being paid...:)

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who are these coaches that would take this job? What are we up to....half a dozen that have turned us down? Houston might be more realistic than UT fans want yo think.

I would have no problem with him being HC if he got him some SEC type recruiters on staff, He is a diamond just waiting to be snatched up...He has an exciting offense and an in your face style of defense.

Grant Ramey has been pretty spot on this whole time along with John Brice. Fulmer is highly respected in the coaching community, they will listen.

No they won't...Shaw will never leave Stanford unless its for the NFL...Cutcliffe already said no,Patterson already made fun of UT because of them screwing up his hire back when Kiffin was hired and the rest of them are not realistic.

I agree. Those ships have sailed. It's time to get realistic

I'd sure as hell take Mike Houston over Doeren, Morris, Steele and a slew of others mentioned recently. However, rather have Fuente or Kiffin.

Ive been throwing Mike Houston's name out there for weeks. This guy can coach. I've posted several times about his success in turning around programs that are historically terrible and his ability to use multiple offensive schemes to get the most out of the players on his roster. This guy is already getting offers from FBS programs (turned down Georgia Southern and one other program this year already.). He will get an offer from a Power 5 school this year or next. I just hope it's us doing the offering. He did pick up his 26th victory today in just his 2nd year at JMU. Also, his salary is currently 375,000 per year... give him 2.5 million and be done with this coaching search.
