A little info on the Dinger. How come his name has never come up. Look what he's doing at the Titans now.

Mike Heimerdinger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Might Holmgren be sick of the NFL? He's losing horribly this season but is a stellar coach.

The more I think about a coaching change the more apt I'd be to be comfortable with an NFL coach. Of course it's not an exact science. After all...Nebraska tried it with Callahan and got burned. But he wasn't someone I would have wanted for UT in all honesty. He's more like a Butch Davis. I would think you wouldn't want a "failed" NFL coach that's why Kiffin isn't so appealing to me. But Saban failed you say. True...true. Who knows. Just some random thoughts for discussion. It's fun...they haven't hired him yet so we can throw out anybody we want to.

Did I hear Jimmy Johnson? Woe!

Vince Lombardi?

I think we would have a shot at him, having him on the sideline would scare our opponents.

So does Jon Gruden because he looks so much like Chuckie. That's enough to scare the hell out of anybody.

Hemi has his team at 8-0. Holmgren is at the end of his career. Neither are choices.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I would think "assistant coaches" coach to become "head" coaches. Maybe not all but most. I don't think for a second it would be silly to think that Heimerdinger might entertain the job if they contacted him. I'd like to hear debate as to whether or not folks would think he could do a good job or not.

Til I heard from him that he isn't interested I say.....why not think about it.

Dinger hasnt gotten a chance as a head coach so far for a reason. It will probably happen in a year or two though with the revolving door of NFL coaches.

See Tom Moore about being an assistant. Some don't make good HC's, some do.

A successful assistant coach in the NFL doesn't want his shot as a head coach to be in college. There are enough bad NFL teams that the good coaches will get their shots there. Our most likely scenario is to get one of the up and coming college coaches.

What do you think the reason is? Do you think he's one of those coaches who couldn't get it done at UT for whatever reason?

Agreed. Yet one does not know until one tries. How else do we ever know? There's a point where you gotta give a guy a shot. Which would be better. To take an "up can coming" college coach or a proven NFL offensive or defensive coordinator/assistant?

How do you know an NFL coach doesn't want a shot as a head coach in college? The NFL isn't all it's cracked up to be many times. Consider Spurrier and Saban. What they did is pretty telling. Again, which is better..an up and coming college coach or an NFL coordinator? I say it's a wash.
