...just keeps looking smarter and smarter over the last 6 months, at least with how he’s handled the head football coaching position. He’s really redeemed himself in my eyes. I was ready to run the guy out of town on a rail after the fulmer’s contract extension last summer. At that point, it looked like you couldn’t separate the two of them with a crowbar. Without rehashing the details, that contract looked like the good ole boy establishment on the hill was as firmly entrenched as ever. This past season proved otherwise, hammy finally saw the light and pulled the trigger, albeit somewhat overdue in the eyes of many here.

Initially, the timing was questionable, but in retrospect, he got that right. We had first dibs on the new staff. Smart move.

He ran the process, and while it seemed excruciatingly slowly at the time to many, he was methodical and did it the right way. Smart again.

But at this point, the smartest move was the hire. I believe that the fanbase as a whole initially regarded the Kiffin hire with cautious optimism, but now that has largely morphed into full blown excitement as the staff rounds out. I was initially in the Gruden camp, but I’ve got to say, at this point, I think what we ended up with was even better given both the proven (Monte’s defense and Orgeron’s recruiting) and the potential present with what we’ve got. I don’t know how much <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Hamilton</st1:city></st1:place> knew about the whole of the staff when he hired Kiffin a month ago, but with each day the Lane Kiffin hire has looked smarter and smarter. So in my eyes, he’s done a grand slam job since the past summer – so thanks Mike.

The remarkable thing is the staff is solid out side of those 2. Monte and O, are the headliners, but the rest round it off nicely. A couple more additions, and we are where we needed to be 5 years ago with the staff.

I never understood the venom towards MH, everyone knew what had to be done. Break-ups are always hard in the best of circumstances. And listening to CPF yesterday on ESPN, he said something very interesting, saying most coaches get run out of town, he was carried off the field, not the worst way to leave at the end of the day.

I would have to agree. I was not a huge Hamilton fan and was in the Gruden camp during the coach search. But, since CLK was named, I have seen the light with Hamilton and now regard him as a genius and a saint for hiring what will be the best staff ever assembled in college football.

I to was cautious.

Now i think I'm giddy about the hires, our situation, and hamilton.

I hope I feel the same way in 3-5 years using the power of hind sight.But for now.......:)

I've never seen the fan base as delusional as it has now become.

I like the way it's playing out for sure. I don't know if that was Kiffin's ideal or Hamilton's but it is a new way of looking at a coaching hire.

It has always been thought of as hire the best head coach you can get. But this was looked at as hire the best possible complete staff you can hire. I am sure alot of assistant coaches like what they are seeing. If it is successful. Look for assistants pay to go way up and the big head coaches salaries to drop. I don't think you will see the Stoops, Saban, Miles type contracts anymore if this works.

Hamilton wasn't alone in his decision to cann phil. I have a new found respect for the man. I'll take my crow well done.

Until I see results I do not consider MH anything...This coaching staff has big names and excitement potential but I am not about to award Hamilton the nobel prize...Lets see how this turns out before making a statue of him to bow to before ever UT sporting event.

You may be right. We all may look back at the end of next season and say "Man, what were we thinking?". Then again, it might be the exact opposite, and we could well be back in the national spotlight in 2 or 3 years.

We all have our opinions. The main thing is that (in theory) we're here because we're Vol fans, and we support the team, thick or thin.

I think you're wrong, and I hope you're wrong. But if you are a Vol fan, then I would expect you to understand my perspective, same as I try to grasp yours.

Go Vols.

You are a bit deluded. We aren't counting votes. Most UT fans do not care what other people in the country think about the hire. Totally unimportant as those elsewhere aren't paying the bills or even concerned about UT. Secondly, you are just mouthing off as a malcontent. Your post is nonsense.

And that is the only state that matters to me. Who cares what other people think. We have to this staff and Mike Hamilton a chance. I trust him. He made great hires in basketball and baseball. Just give them a chance.

So you view Hamilton in the same light that you did in, say, May?

My current thought is that MH is a cheap tool but I will break out the finest china for the crow feast in the fall if wrong.

success on the field will determine all of this in the future.

what i think you can give Hammy credit for now is putting the money where his mouth was. they are pulling out all the stops to put together as good a staff as they possibly can.

there is no hesitation or anything. they are going after who they want, regardless. And for the most part, they're getting them.

i think if you were to outline this as a steps in a process, so far in that process Hammy's done just fine.

but it will probably still be a couple/three years out before we can all sit back and go thumbs up or down at this whole thing.

so far though, so good.
