Mike Hamilton hired Martin over Marshall AND Dooley over Sumlin

Don't underestimate the resources at Wichita State. There is a ton of old Pizza Hut, oil, and Koch bros money that drives the basketball program and the program has a rich basketball history (for a mid-major as they say). Money is no issue and their new facilities are as good as you'll find at major programs. Also, there is no football program and the baseball program has slipped in recent years so Marshall is the big dog in Wichita - and that is worth something.

In January 2007, UT Basketball recruiting budget was reported to be $216,371 whereas Wichita State's was approx $91,000. Pretty large difference there.

Saying CCM wasnt qualified is not the same as calling for his firing. The simple truth is that CCM was NOT a qualified candidate to be offered the job.
We all know he is getting year three.
I have no doubt that he'll make the tourney next year. That still doesnt mean i think he was or is the right candidate. And that is true regardless of who hired him. Of course next year, if he has a stacked roster and makes the tourney, everyone will say he was the right choice. But that is no different than saying he is the wrong choice after this year. My argument isn't based only on one year. It is based on his resume. Simply that he never did anything to warrant the UT job. That isn't an attack on him or the people who support him. (Whatever that means.) Barring a flop next year i see CCM getting at least five years. So, my case is only that there was a substantial list of candidates that could have been hired who would have the program further along. All that must be tempered with the NCAA cloud that was hanging at the time. I understand that. But that doesn't improve CCM as a candidate. It only means that UT was forced to under hire.
This is Tennessee athletics now.

Gregg Marshall lost four starters and his top five scorers from a team that was seeded No. 5 last year - and yet he got this team to Final 4

Martin cant even get to the tourney
