with the poor quality product that ut is putting on the field, they should be giving free tickets to everyone, not just students.

1) Reduce ticket prices by at least 33%.....possibly 50% for some games.
2) Fire the band director and pay whatever it takes to get the best in the nation..........Last year's Pride of the Southland was an embarrassment.
3) For the games that the visiting teams will not bring a band, spend a hundred grand or so and have a decent halftime show......a Kenny Chesney or whoever instead of introducing a group of 4-H club goobers.
4) Billboards; Not the Lane Kiffin type, but the ones UT used in the early '90's that blanked the State of Tennessee showing a Orange clad Vol diving over the goal-line with the caption "It's football time in Tennessee"!
5) Recruit ex-UT stars ( A Manning, Wilson, Kelsy Finch, Jason Allen etc) to go on State media blitz. Taped of course for the current NFL players.

Unfortunately the program will likely bottom out this season or next. Anyone can be a fan during the glory years but not in the mediocre years. Hamilton and Dooley must keep the flame going until UT starts winning again......as they surely will. Living outside the state and listening to satellite talk sports programs, it is my opinion that UT is still considered one of the elite football schools but now is just in a down cycle.

1. Seriously? Is there a cold front moving towards hell?
2. No one else gives a crap about the band.
3. Too much money to spend on a time when everyone is taking a whiz.
4. Maybe. Not a bad idea.
5. Unsure of the benefit.
Probably. Yes, true. Uhm, not so sure. Maybe.

You're welcome.

.

Ahem.

The band's thousands of alumni care. So do the multiple financial contributors, the Athletic Department, and a large portion of the fan base. You really think 10-20k people wait on The Hill before the game after the stadium gates have opened because they have nothing better to do?

Once the knees and elbows on the beloved footballers have worn out, those guys have to work for someone. More likely than not it will be a former member of a band program somewhere. We take pride in that fact.

All of you band negative folks: think of a game without Rocky Top, Down the Field, and the T. Just as well be a Vandy game without them. Shame on you all. :banghead2:

Does this make you feel better?

2010 UTM, Oregon, UAB, Memphis
2009 WKU, UCLA, Ohio, Memphis
2008 UCLA, UAB, NIU, Wyoming

2001 Syracuse, Notre Dame, Memphis
2000 So Miss, LA Monroe, Memphis
1999 Wyoming, Memphis, Notre Dame

We played them in 5 of the 6 seasons above. It's a moot point. What I'm saying is that we play one more cupcake game now than we did then. And that extra game makes it harder to sell out both cupcake games.

This is main reason I was thinking that sells are down. I love UT football, but I just can't bring myself to go see them play a cupcake. You pay all that money and the game is over in the first quarter. Beating a cupcake by 40 points is really no indication of how good we'll be in the SEC. How many people would rather stay home that day and watch the LSU/AL or what ever big game in HD.

The band is there because of the football team, not the other way around.

They definitely need to make student tickets free.. I go to mtsu and we get in free to everything and it's really a relief to not have to pay to get into games.

Plus maybe you would get some students who are actually loud instead of a bunch of sorority girls talking about last weeks episode of secret life. We definitely have the worst student section in college football.. It gets louder at mtsu's 20000 seat stadium than our 100k

I disagree. Our students need to just accept that it's a commonality in major college football. Back when we didn't have to pay, it was because our construction projects overlapped with on-field success. Now we're trying to keep up with the Joneses in facilities, while we aren't doing so on the field. That lack of production forces the AD's hand into charging students, and that's just how it goes. The fact of the matter is that we will be paying close to nothing, and it will be the only money we put in to the Men's Athletic Department. I have no problem giving that small amount of money as a fee to watch football, basketball, baseball, etc. It's almost a steal to get all those programs for free, really.

At worst you should have to pay 20 dollars.. 50-60 dollar tickets to some home games are nuts.. I wouldn't go either

I have to agree the band was no where as good as it has been, and yes the thriller act was good, but kind of funny since the game cocks band did the same routine the year before and as bad as I hate to say it kicked our bands butt doing it.

Stop allowing $60 tickets to be sold for $600 and $700 dollars.
Stop allowing people to buy season tickets that never plan on attending any games.

All home games are $10 for students

I couldve sworn I've had friends tell me it's a lot more.. I could be wrong but that's what I was told. But back to my other point our student section Sucks anyways so what's it matter

I normally take boys to opening game, stay walking distance to field, two nights, but this year the UT Martin game, I just feel I'd be throwing away . UT Martin=JOKE. I'd rather see a good high school game.

Prices have gone down significantly over the last 2 years (and guest tickets are still basically face value)

Nice way to not refute any of what I said.

Refute? There's nothing to refute. It's a ridiculous notion that anyone would pay these ticket prices to watch the band. Unless you're a complete idiot. With the exception of you of course.
