The really interesting thing about the new contract is just the fact that he agreed to it.Gundy is/was a good coach. But it seems he's gotten complacent. He took a paycut this past Jan and I can't imagine he was too happy about that.
I would not be surprised to see him step aside into a GM type of role in the athletic department.
He could have said "No, we have a current deal in place that pays me XYZ, has a rolling 5-year term, has a buyout of X%, etc. I'm not signing a new deal that changes those things - if you're not happy with the job I'm doing, then just fire me and buy me out." But he didn't. It also has language in there about helping the AD find a successor.
