Mike Gundy is getting what he deserves (now fired)

Wow. Mike Gundy has been fired from Oklahoma State. I usually feel bad when someone loses their job, but not for Gundy. He used our Vols not once, but twice acting like he was interested in coming to Tennessee to coach only to use us to get a bigger pay day from Oklahoma State. He's not the Coach that he used to be and the Cowboys no longer see him as their "Football King". Also, too bad his buddy, T. Boone Pickens, is no longer around to pull his butt out of the fire. Now I wonder what non-power 4 or FCS School he'll wind up at.

There's so much wrong in this post, I'm not even sure where to start.

Yeah, I was just looking at that.

Golesh is on everyone's radar, but he's likely in a better position at USF than he would taking over a dumpster fire in Stillwater. He's a hot commodity and better jobs (and by that I mean those that can invest in an NIL program) will open this year.
I agree. He will be considered for even better jobs than Oklahoma State. I could see Dabo being canned if Clemson keeps losing. Sure he won them two National Championships in the past ten years. But this is also not like the old days where loyalty goes a long way. We're now a "What have you done for me lately?" society. Anyway, I could see Alex Golesh as a strong candidate for Clemson if Dabo Swinney does lose his job. Or Golesh could get a bigger gig and not have to go that far as I don't see Billy Napier being back for Florida next year. I think he'd definitely be considered.

He's contractually bound to assist in picking his successor, which is really odd because he has to do that while still being head coach.

That contract overall he signed last offseason is really odd and not one you see often.
I've never heard of that before. The hardest part of that agreement to understand is why the Oklahoma State administration would even want the man they just fired to have input in who they replace him with. It's bizarre.

Completely bizarre on multiple levels, but I'm assuming he doesn't have to help them find a replacement now though. He was contractually obligated to do that, but he's been fired.

I still can't believe why he even agreed to that restructured deal to begin with - it lowered his pay, lowered his buyout, and effectively gave him more work to do. He was owed a bigger buyout under the old contract. When his bosses presented that new agreement to him, I can't believe he just didn't say "Look, we already have an agreement in place. If you don't like the job I'm doing, then fire me and you owe me the buyout under the terms of that deal."

Not every decision is made on money and "business".

From what Josh Pate says the money he lost was supposed to go to NIL, but didn't. Coaches are competitive and stubborn, I am sure he thought he could right the ship if he had extra NIL $$ available.

Gundy played Tennessee and other schools to fatten his pocketbook and stay at Ok State. His Cowboys just got lassoed at Oregon. I suspect he won’t be there much longer. Can’t believe we went after him, not once but twice. Tells you everything you need to know about how low this program sunk.

Yall hold grudges for the weirdest things

I also wonder how much the loss of T. Boone Pickens is playing a role in Oklahoma State's inability to recruit well now. He was a big football fan, and he would have bankrolled their NIL collective. He was also a big believer in Gundy.

What other profession would have that? Like, "Yeah, we're now going to let you go. But before you leave the company, can you help us hire your replacement?" And the one fired be like, "Sure, I'd be happy to help you find the guy to replace me." Yeah, like that ever happens.
