How can we possibly be expected to beat Florida, at Georgia, at Texas A&M, and Alabama all in row next year? We would have to be the best team in the country. We might be, but I don't know how that could be the expectation. The best bet is we go 2 and 2 in those games, win the rest and go to the Sugar bowl. Our program is in good shape. 9-4 and a top 25 finish met expectations.

Florida will either be stuck with Harris again or breaking in a new QB. They also had a major hit in players declaring for the draft.

Georgia will be breaking in a new coaching staff along with trying to replace Floyd and Mitchell and having their own sketchy QB situation.

QB's can't leave TX AM fast enough it seems and will be replacing 4 starters on defense.

Bama will be the toughest test next season as usual but to hope for 2-2 is selling the Vols short and giving way too much credit to programs who aren't as stable as the Vols going into next season.

Been seeing "lack of stability...lack of talent...lack of experience" as excuses for years now and the Vols are finally going to be heading into a season with the clear edge on the stability and experience front and a decided advantage in talent at the most important position on the field.

He says Georgia had a 'down year' but 10-2 or 9-3 is what they usually are. Georgia didn't have a down year. They had a typical year. His bringing up the Chubb injury is just another way to disparage our victory.

Yeah it's not like TN had any injuries...They were a very healthy team. (blue font)

Only ones who are "sick" are the ones who can't see the huge improvement in Tennessee's program since Jones.

I thought 10-2 was expected next year. I guess you just pick two loses but FL and Bama wins show solid progress.

He's right about only one big win (and with Chubb getting hurt, it may not have been that big) but we played nip and tuck with the big boys, 2 of whom are in the playoffs. Before you haters start claiming I'm happy with moral victories, let me say that those games prove we are much better than sick. Sick is the last few years when we were toast by halftime--we have greatly improved and we expect great things over the next few years. By no means are we sick..we are healthy, and getting healthier

A few of the Vol coaches need to improve their ability to make adjustments during the game, the Vols were out coached at times this year

We lose Gaulden, we are without Maggitt. They take out Turtle. I am sick of the "if we had only had ..., we would have won". We were decimated by injuries and played a very young line up. We made huge progress in 2015 and we came back from 21 down against the 9-3 dawgs . We lost 4 close games to great teams 2 of which are in the final four.

Dumbest article ever scribbled. How does a,program worth over 120 Million ever get defined as "sick"?

Makes perfect sense. Must be a Bernie Sanders supporter.

Stupid.

So... undefeated season is expected?

A dominate showing is expected. Being undefeated is dependent on the resolve of the players and a whole lot of intangibles. However, there will be some who will expect & demand this team to go undefeated, or they will experience misery.

Good points all. However, I would rather we as a fanbase complain about the two or three plays a game that prevented winning, as opposed to the glaring deficiencies we were discussing 4 years ago.

There is a good percentage of fans on this site who really-really hope that Butch fails.

Close loses to teams in the playoffs means nothing to them.
If the teams best players were seniors, I would agree, moral-victories mean nothing. But when your best recruiting class is the Sophomore class, these close calls could be interrupted as a good sign for the future.

They don't want to look for hopeful signs for the future.
They look for any news to kindle the flame of hope they have that Butch will fail.

Can someone explain why? Are these the same fools posting ridiculous scenarios about how Jon Gruden was coming with Cowher as his DC????

I think you are wrong about Vol fans wanting him to fail(lose games). There are many on here that are not Vol fans and they do want him to not beat their team. Some Vol fans don't think he has it in him to coach us to a NC, so they feel the longer he stays the longer it will be before the Vols will win a NC.

I think he will do it. I also think that after this year, being so close to having a special year, with the amount of room for improvement, I expect us to be in position to get the wins. There are a lot of factors that we have got to overcome, but 2016 could truely be special.

Go Vols!

When did he become an expert? Haven't heard of him since he left MASH. Oh well, his loss, I just burned all my MASH DVDs.

i know you don't think this, as you've said you think he will do it.... but this is where i get lost with some the discourse on here...
Some Vol fans don't think he has it in him to coach us to a NC, so they feel the longer he stays the longer it will be before the Vols will win a NC.
but then also say "i don't want us to loose, i just want him to fail and get fired because i don't believe he has it in him to coach us to a nc." (using your example). wouldn't that mean we are loosing? i just don't follow that logic at all. how can you (not you iam4utalways)want him to fail enough to be fired while ut still continues to win more games? cause he's not gonna get fired for winning games. maybe i'm just missing something but i figure you just gotta believe in your ol vols. coaches included.

people second guessing everything the day after isn't gonna make them happier, generally. sure, every coach would like to have one back but that's how the game (and life) goes sometimes. i mean look at the overtime shenanigans during the patriots v jets game. belichick and co really goofed that up. and it cost them the game but he has good coaching equity built up so no one is calling for his head. that'd be nonsensical. but he's also not the coach of ut..... :birgits_giggle:

Some think he has already failed. I don't think that way, it's time to continue our winning streak for a long while.

Go Vols!

Farrell dissed our game with Georgia citing the Chubb injury. If you look at the stats, Marshal and Michel still got almost 200 yds in the game. We seized momentum just before the half and took the game. It wasn't given to us on a platter. They were in the game until the last play. That's the way the series has gone the last three years. I call BS if he says it wasn't a quality win. I screamed at the TV more in that game than all year combined...

You are severely underestimating the impact of the Chubb injury on Georgia's offense. When he was healthy, they often used Michel as a WR where he was a big play threat in the passing game. When Chubb went down, Michel had to move to RB full-time and that threat was largely gone.

For our more gullible readers, the article's author is actually not the Mike Farrell of M*A*S*H* fame. That Mike Farrell is too busy saving transgendered Panda Bears in China.
