Mike Edwards '09 DB

Not to get argumentative, we could say the same thing about Marlon Brown. He played against some really crappy competition. I am all down for finding a diamond in the rough kind of guy I'm just really curious how he was rated so low and how the new staff found him and wanted him...

no argument here I agree w/ you. but for brown he flat showed out in the AA game. I'm not sure but I think Edwards may have done well in his all star game also.

This is great news. Just getting one player from the 'Ville will get them all thinking about us. And every year they put out at least a few.

Plays for Ted Ginn, Sr. in Cleveland at one of the better HS programs in the state of Ohio...

since Ginn's son played at tOSU one would have thought he would've been steered their way. thats a tough one to figure. i don't think they even offered.

They've got at least 4 DB commits right now. Must have been higher on others.

I believe the reason he's rated as a 3 star is because he played a primarily a zone defense in high school. Despite being dominant in that particular type of defense, many recruiters have questioned his man ability. This however shouldn't be an issue considering he's the ideal mold for a CB in the Tampa 2 formation.

The video shows a lot of man to man.

well you can't look at one video and evaluate a player. I've looked at multiple videos, read multiple articles and read his evaluation by espn and scout and they all parallel with my belief. But i guess your entitled to your opinion.

someone on VQ said a recruiting writer in Ohio felt Edwards was the best pure coverage corner in Ohio last season, FWIW.

I'm excited to see him in orange, regardless of where he lines up.

From Edwards:

Most have Marcus Hall pegged to sign with Ohio State.

“A lot of people think that,” Edwards said, “but I think that Marcus is going to shock a lot of people.”

possibly his competiton. but who knows? it's been said before there are excellent examples of mistakes by recruiting evaluators and they should be taken with a grain of salt. do not forget that almost everyone on our coaching staff used to work in the NFL and one of them is possibly the best defensive coach in history.

No. Good competition. I could describe it to you or you could just go on some of his videos and watch his competition and then watch Marlon Brown's. Then tell me who has the better competition. Ohio is hands down better at HS football at every division compaired to TN.

Didn't mean to rant. Just wanted to put this notion to rest. I have watched multiple TN HS games and multiple OH HS games. Just no comparison.

They play quite a few weak teams inconference, but play many tough in division teams.

Or you just going along with what they said.

I wouldnt necessarily say that. I lived up in the Canton/Akron area for 1 1/2 years. I got to watch Massilon (sp) and Hoover and several other top schools in Cuyahoga county. They have had some good and great football players come from that area but the level of football is about the same.
