Here's an interesting question... Any hard info that it was an interview? For all we know, Butch brought in one of his mentors as a consultant while weighing hiring options. Personally, I've never heard of a 2 day interview.

Surely to goodness someone from TOS would have a small nugget as to what's happening.
I don't buy the fact that Jones would let CZA walk and then he decided to attend a game at TBA. I'd be damned if I gave money to an ex employer.

Until I see a press conference or official release from UT, this is all just speculation. If DeBord is the hire, then we need to let him be the OL coach as well, since that seems to be his specialty, then let Mahoney go. Hire a QB coach. I know we have a GA that can work with the QBs, but with three frosh QBs incoming, I'm looking for a QB coach with a better resume. Besides, a GA can't take recruiting visits. If Coach Z leaves, he leaves. I'm not sold we have his replacement lined up if he does leave.

If DeBord is the hire and he flops, Butch is gonna start losing the fanbase. He's taking a big gamble if this is the hire.

If he wants Tennessee to be where he says then this is a major risk. I would hope that if you want UT back you stop at nothing to get the best of the best. Not a quick pick at the clearance section at bargain basement.

An OC that's also an OL coach has little to do with developing a QB. The QB coach works on mechanics and reads. The QB coach is the actual teacher. The OC just calls the plays and expects the QB to be able to make it work. DeBord is an OL guy. Just like Fulmer was an OL guy. Fulmer relied on Cut to develop the QBs.

Sorry I disagree, No one could top CDD running off Chuck Smith then also not promoting Lance to DC. Just my opinion but that, will never be topped as an Epic Fail.

Don't have a name off the top of my head, but given our QBs, it would be someone who has worked with QBs like Mariotta or Winston. Not saying we could get guys from Oregon or FSU, just someone who has worked with similar style QBs.

Butch on 1045 The Zone seems to be pretty much trying to indirectly talk up why he would hire Mike DeBord without actually saying it. Seems more and more likely. I was hoping he would try and knock it down.

DeBord is far from a sexy hire, but the sexy hire isn't always the best hire. The staff has to have chemistry. Butch is taking a huge risk imo, but if this is what he believes makes for the best chemistry, it is the way to go. Quickest way to destroy a staff is to bring in a personality that doesn't mesh, no matter how good they might be.

Ala has their worst secondary and defense in the Saban Era. AU hung 600+ yards on them and Ohio St had 40+ points and 550+ yards with a third string QB. W.Va threw all over them, LSU was up and down the field on them with a horrible QB. Not saying they had a bad D by any means but our secondary ranked ahead of theirs if that tells you anything. And Yes GA struggled at times this yr as well. And won't bring up S.Carol's Defense. The only SEC D I have seen be worse than the Sunseri D in Knoxville.

Agreed take the outcome of Kiffin and Gran

I also understand that you have to have chemistry. You also have to get away from complacency and go for it at some point otherwise your decision making will be called into question or the new hire and yourself will be seeking new employers the following year.
