Mike Canales it is !! [RUMOR]

This entire thread is paralysis by analysis.

Look at the facts. He has been coaching for 30 years and when he got a chance to run the show at North Texas he still couldn't get the interim tag removed. This hire isn't as bad as Debord, but its not far off.

But Debord wasn't bad or anywhere near it. Besides a feast or famine style, this team scored points (and broke many school records doing it)..........I was never a Debord fan but I do not understand the the blantant disrespect he has gotten as an OC.

Probably because Dobbs improvised to score most of the time. More credit to him than Debo

No offense, but like many on this board you clearly don't understand the concept of average.

In College Football 8-4 is 'average', specially if you go 4-4 in the conference play. For TN, which is a Top 10 wins all time program, its below average.

Mathematically too 4 wins is perfect 'average for SEC overall. It was slightly above average in SEC east (average was 3.71 wins) and slightly below average in SEC west (4.285 wins).

So seems like many in this board understand concept of average but clearly you don't.

I don't think Dobbs improved under Debord at all as a passer.

I hate to be forced to laugh so hard at someone that also lives in Sumner county but you give me no options.

HAHAAHAHA!

LMAO @ buTch and staff bringing themselves down, LOL!

Educate yourself about Tennessee footVol before making such a silly post or just cheer on the Gallatin green wave.

FACT is that under coach Fulmer during our very BEST years the average number of Wins was just 9 Wins per season.

The last 2 years buTch has Won exactly 9 games per year.

That IS exactly what Fulmer did in our BEST years, 9 Wins per year so buTch didn't do as well as we all wanted but he hasn't brought anything down except for the hate of the Nega Nincompoops.

I also have to LMAO @ you saying our staff is getting a "major overhaul:, LOL!

So far the ONLY coach that's left is DeBord which all you Nega Nincompoops have hated since day 1 he's been here.

This past season our Vols O did set a new RECORD for the most points scored and the most TD's scored in a single season, not bad for a old OC running the O scheme of buTch, LOL!

We did let a Graduate Assistant leave who was our QB coach and a guy that our QB's loved and thhat's why buTch is talking to people about becoming our QB coach.

NEWSFLASH little boy...Replacing a OC and 1 GA is far from a major staff overhaul, LMAO!

I like you Nega Nincompoops because at least all of you bring some good humor here, LMAO!

VFL...GBO!!!

You can't have an 8-4 regular season with a loss to Vandy and South Carolina and a win against Nebraska in the MCB and try to spin it as being the same as the Fulmer years. Honestly, does it feel like the Fulmer years to you? It doesn't to me, this kind of don't bite the hand that feeds you mindset is a joke. Tennessee can be elite and that is exactly what we should strive for instead of settling.

Everyone across the nation believed this was the most talented team we have had in quite some time. Any thought that this season was anything other than a massive disappointment is asinine.

Realistically thinking about the oc/qb coach hire I think butch wanted to go out and get a big time guy that would add some new wrinkles to the offense, but at the same time he a yes man and not completely overhaul the offense. After butch interviewed his first few candidates he realized he wasn't going to make a splash hire without an AD, so butch went to a list of guys he knew he could get without an AD... I'm hoping the reason the hire is taking so long is because butch is hoping the board makes a decision on the AD so he can make a splash higher...... with that being said that is pure hope and the names we have been hearing about are the only guys butch has talked to

So from last year to this year he didn't improve? That's laughable. Maybe you should check the Dobb's stat thread out.

To each his own, Dobbs was best when things broke down, throwing or running. Many of his throws were predetermined one read throws where he stared his man down the entire time. How many of us have sat in Neyland watching backside receivers run wide open only to watch Dobbs throw a dying quail because he didn't come off his first read? The coaching was lacking. I love Dobbs. He's a gamer and deserved better. I would have loved to see how he would have developed with a true QB coach instead of a Graduate Assistant.

I agree about the QB coach. But honestly with how the oline played most of the year, he didn't have time to check his reads. Most of the time when Dobbs had time in the pocket he made some great reads. Second half of Florida game is a perfect example.

Right, but that also presents another problem with the Debord hire, was he not supposedly an OL guru of sorts, coming in to help the embacle that is Mahoney? I saw little to no improvement there as well, especially in terms of pass blocking.

A few of you keep taking about how 9 wins was our " average" under Fulmer and how CBJ is averaging 9 wins also so he should gets a pass.

Leta put that average of 9 wins into the proper context. During the Fulmer years we were always in the hunt for a sec crown. There were off years but we were a force to be reckoned with. Florida was up, Georgia was up and the east was THE division... usually the SEC champion came from the east. The perception was that we would play anyone, anywhere, anytime. Tennessee was a team that would knock you in the mouth and you had better be ready to play that day. We frequently made trips out to the west coast to play early ooc opponents.

The perception that is now. We don't play the strongest ooc schedule but have played some good teams (Virginia Tech and Oklahoma ) but a lot of those games were scheduled way before CBJ got here. I know we have West Virginia coming and rumblings of a home/home with Ohio State so I hope that happens. But Tennessee doesn't strike that fear into other teams that we did then. We sure as heck don't scare Vandy and USCe... the media WANTS to hype us up.. put us back where we historically were but we are no where close to that. Just watch the Clemson/Bama game.. that was 2 championship calibre teams playing.

We can blame injuries, bad luck, youth, recruiting, whatever but they are exscuses.

Every team experiences injuries even though we had more than our share this year. We have recruited well enough to have expected our 2's and 3's to perform better. I don't think it's youth or inexperience that we are lacking as a team but player development. We have some really talented athletes on this team, but I feel the starters we have had have been pretty much running in god given talent and the ones that have needed coached up more(developed) have not been given the proper coaching. There are exceptions to this ... I feel Dl and RB have been developed properly but others areas are terrible. I feel WR were a wash this year because they made up for the previous years but I'm not sure if that was because of or in spite of Coach Z. DB, LB, and Oline are terrible. Again.. I think any progress made in those areas were due to natural god given ability and maturity rather than coaching.

If you think those 9 win average seasons under Fulmer "feel" like the 9 wins we have averaged the last 2 years then I don't know what to tell you.. because they don't.

Also, keep in mind that we were only playing an 11 game regular season for the majority of Fulmer's time here.

If Canales is the choice then the Vols will have a head coach from Ferris State, a defensive coordinator from Yale and offensive coordinator form North Texas

Lookout SEC the Vols are coming:popcorn:

Dobbs used his talent (and his ability to read the option or most of the time). So did Peyton. So did Tee. So did Ice man. But the OC still gets the credit for the offense regardless of how it happens.

Nick Saban went to Kent State... that doesn't mean a damn thing!
