I couldn't believe the way we played today. I know we didn't have much to play for, but I am very disappointed. I checked Rivals and Wyoming only had 3 three star recruits last year, the rest were two star or below. Our recruiting classes over the last four years were an average of 16 nationally and Wyoming's were around 100. There is no excuse to lose that game.

I am getting frustrated reading all of the media's dumb articles and rumors on who our next coach is going to be. All I can say is Mike better be careful who he picks. If he picks someone that is unproven or has only coached in a weak conference (Examples Brewster or Kelley) he better hope he is as lucky as he was with Bruce Pearl or his career at UT is over. I don't know if Brewster or Kelley are good coaches, but I do know that whoever Mike picks better be able to bring in top 10-15 recruiting classes every year.

I personally think we are in trouble unless we get Carroll, Gruden, Davis, Leach or possibly Kiffin. (Or at least someone comparable.

I know Carroll isn't going to happen or is a low chance. I think they should offer him big bucks though, its worth a shot. Personally, if Carroll was really a competitor I think he would consider it. Many people rag on him because USC plays a weak schedule. It would really give him a chance to prove himself if he could rebuild a Tennessee program and win in the SEC.

Lots of times the two stars aren't even ranked that high until they sign, it looks like kind of a courtesy ranking since they're not on the list until then.

Nebraska in the 90s never had a Top 10 class or maybe 20, but yet the killed UT and UF!

Wait... in your post you highlighted a case where a team with no top recruits came in and beat a team stacked with top recruits. And your answer is to pass over guys like Kelly because they may not be able to bring in even more top talent? Hey, maybe it takes more than just stock piling talent, buddy?

How about having someone that can actually coach and develope players?

True I agree. We definitely need someone that can develop players. Our offensive line getting worse from last year to this year is proof. Its unbelievable that our offensive line isn't better, after all CPF was an old Offensive lineman

After what Texas Tech did to No. #8 OSU last night I may be on the Mike Leach bus. Texas Tech was once like Ole Miss in their conference and now...No#2 in the country. There's some serious magic going on down there.

He just built a huge house on the beach, and seems to really like the LA lifestyle. I can't imagine leaving a top 5 program in a hotbed of talent to try to scrap it out in the SEC. I just don't think he's the kind of guy who feels like he needs to prove himself to anyone. And why should he, he already has a ring. They could offer, but I bet we already know the answer.

No question this will be Hamiltons biggest hire and lets be honest it is a crap shoot right now.Probably 10 great names out there 3 or 4 not to realistic but he must pull the right rabbit out of the hat.I have one that no one has said and i don't think he is ready yet but boy he was fun on the side lines and the kids loved him...Trooper Taylor

Your point got a little lost in the thread with people bandying about the list of names at the end, but your premise is correct: this needs to be a big hire.

If the words under the radar, up and comer, or underrated accompany the news story about the new coach, it is going to meet with a lot of disappointment.

Just look at the guy? Does he look Hollywood or Knoxville? Plus I don't think he would look good in orange.

But I've asked out girls that were way out of my league. Most said no, but my failures weren't going to be analyzed ad nauseum by the media and on message boards either.

i agree 100%. He is not comparable to Saban AT ALL. Saban was a college coach first. Gruden was only a college coach for 5 years. Also, Gruden is a top tier, successful head coach in the NFL. Why do you think we see so many more successful college coaches go up to the NFL than successful NFL coaches coming down to college? It's because almost all coaches prefer NFL over college. And Saban was a subpar to bad NFL coach. HE was better off coming back to college where as Gruden would be an idiot to come back to UT.

Oh yeah and not every coach is a greedy SOB (sorry about language) who only cares about money. There are some decent coaches (mainly in NFL) who would actually take the 2-3 million dollar pay cut to coach top tier players rather than be a college coach. Gruden and Cowher definetly fall under this category.

First of all, most all of the men on this site have asked out girls that were way out of their league, so you aren't exactly special because of that. Secondly, Pete Carroll would NEVER come to UT because he is too happy at USC and you can get better recruits to USC than UT. Sorry, but that is the reality.

And I think that could very well happen. There aren't many guys who don't fit that description that would be willing to come.

I would be happy with guys like Kiffin and Kelly, who I think meet that description.
