... that "take your trips and be sure" philosophy.
I am all for it up through say... 3 weeks before NSD. IMHO, UT should clamp down on it within the last 3 weeks. Perhaps even establish a policy of pulling offers if they do it.
The dirtiest recruiting is always going to occur at crunch time. If a kid is going elsewhere then that decision should not be based on a trip the weekend before NSD. UT does not get a chance to react.
That's true, but I think CDD may have to just tell them that a visit on the last week before NSD will be viewed as if the recruit is looking to get out of their commitment. This isn't N. Korea.
If he were to try and dictate who can visit where, recruits won't commit early. It's not a good idea.
I said the same thing earlier today. If you arent sure a month before NSD we are moving on.
Borque was a late addition. Santos and Peters were with us from July. Totally different circumstances. So we would have pulled schollies from Bourque, McNeil and another one or two?
You guys don't understand that we aren't in position to pull schollies from good players because they want to visit another team before signing day.
The only way to avoid losing recruits on NSD now is to just win. That is the ONLY thing coaches can say against Dooley. He's a high character guy, and every thing you want to represent you're program. All he's got to do now is show some progress. I personally think he is going to show that progress in a BIG way in 2012. Starting off with NCST. GO VOLS!
You are correct. And when you have to go at least 2-3 hours away and pull recruits from their home states, it's a challenge.
Most UT fans don't have the objectivity to understand the challenges UT has in recruiting vs other SEC schools.
This isn't the 80's/90's anymore. Everyone has big stadiums, coaching is better in the league, and facilities are better in many places.
DD trying not to allow someone to take a visit is a bad idea. Can you imagine him trying to tell Santos he would pull his offer if he drove down the road to Austin for the weekend?
i hate to say this because it's going to tick everyone off.
but, here it goes.
tennessee and derek dooley do not carry the kind of clout to make demands of anyone. when tennessee is the place where everyone wants to go, then they can take that kind of stance with recruits.
but, not now.

he only visited because they offered the scholarship late. Pulling them for simply visiting other schools isn't something UT can afford to try right now

It may tick people off, but right now you are right. It simply wouldn't end well for us if we tried it.
