Obviously. But we still need to have high standards for the program, and maybe it's just me, but it seems that UT fans have lowered them.

Yeah... and if "everyone" is saying it then it MUST be true. If you have never experienced a time when "everyone" was saying something about you that was completely untrue though "everyone" believed it then you've lived a charmed life.


What could possibly matter more than 18 returning starters with most being Jrs after the past 2 years devoid of upper class leadership? This is the biggest reason I believe his time at UT will be determined by this fall alone. Even if he does the minimum to keep the job, he likely loses it the following season barring a miracle.

Of course it isn't safe harbor. Right now Dooley is the captain of the last ship in the convoy. He's made some repairs to the engine but the U-boats are closing in. If he doesn't at least get into the middle to front of the pack... it will quickly become a sinking ship but won't stay "sinking" long. It will very quickly become "sunk".

Still no excuse for back to back losing seasons, especially since the East has been down.

Perception is usually reality.

Good coaching? Starters that don't quit? Not basically starting from scratch with seven new coaches?

I prefer this analogy: That while the ship was sinking, he was able to fix the patches, but there are still some major leaks and the crew is starting to panic and realize there is little hope.

Again, live for awhile and learn. Once a defeatist attitude envelopes any organization regardless of the causes that organization will struggle if not fail. An organization with the exact same circumstance that can maintain a positive atmosphere stands a much better chance of succeeding.

I have recently turned a plant around. One of the things I have done is purge employees with defeatist, uncontented, "unhappy" outlooks. They've been replaced with assertive, positive, "happy" people who are excited about what we're doing.

I hope this has happened inside the program. It needs to happen in the fanbase.

The fanbase will be ecstatic when the wins come. The fanbase is tired of seeing an over the hill coach get 3 extra years, a young hotshot bail after one and a guy that has one winning record in 5 years lead the program. "Happy outlooks" doesn't change the fact Dooley has never won anything of significance in his career. "Happy outlooks" don't change the fact Dooley deflects any and all criticism to a coach or the players. "Happy outlooks" do not win football games.

Talented players coached by talented coaches do.

Unless your name is Da'Rick Rogers. If you lead the SEC in TD receptions, yards and real close to the top in catches, you're not good enough.

Or Tyler Bray. Shatter every freshman record in Tennessee's book but you shatter your thumb on a helmet. Then you're immature and not a leader.

However, don't you dare question a coach with immaculate hair and orange pants.

I keep seeing this 8 wins garbage on here from people, do you honestly think that 8 wins for the most experienced returning team in the SEC and a favorable schedule in what will probably be a down year for the conference is acceptable ?

Where do you fit in your analogy? Shark circling the waters like most on here just wishing the ship would sink so you look so smart for calling it and being able to say I told you so?

Maybe you guys will have a feeding frenzy but I'll never say i want the Vols to fail so I hope the sharks stay hungry for a long time. :hi:

So by reading all of 22 pages of this thread I gather this. If all of the football know it alls on here do not know this guy he must suck as a coach, correct? Wow, some of you guys are awesome . So my next question is since you know so much about who is good and who is not . Do you know of a good class "a" cdl truck driver in the Nashville area looking for a local driving job? If you do let me know I am sure with your knowledge he would be great. Thanks! GBO !

here is why 8 wins is acceptable.. changing head caoches again after a 3 year period means backing the program back a couple of years.

Attrition will hit 15-25 mark on players leaving which means the next guy is "rebuilding" roster again.

Which means 3 years out, you are again looking at 8 win season again.

its a cycle of hiring trying to find a guy that can deliver you an SEC championship (or 10-11 wins seaon) in their 3rd year..

Richt, Meyer, Saban (twice) and Miles show it's possible.

And those guys came from being an assistant at FSU, Utah's HC, Michigan State's HC and Okie State's HC.

These schools are what Tennessee should look at. The handwringing and the excuses for keeping a mediocre coach is ridiculous.
