I don't know about that. I think it would be better for us to hire a coordinator with a lot of potential than a head coach at a smaller school though.

No, neither. UT absolutely couldn't settle for an unproven commodity after going from Fulmer to Kiffin to Dooley to Butch and then onward from 2008-2015. It would be a home run hire or else.

Jones is performing as well as anyone could expect at UT. If UT can't retain him then how would anyone in a reasonably positive situation give that up to come to what would be the new coaching dead end known as UT? Someone mentioned Nutt and he might be desperate enough to take the job.

That is incredibly naive. Jones is performing as well as anybody could expect coming off of the Fulmer-Kiffin-Dooley trifecta, and with a roster stripped of talent. It is a consensus that we should be at worst a 7-8 with team next year and a 9-10 win team the following year. A big name hire could keep most of the class, possibly bring in a few more, and maintain a lot of cohesion in the current roster. UT is not Vanderbilt - 6 wins is not the most that you can expect going forwards. Just because a garbage coach couldn't do it, and a coach following a garbage coach couldn't do it in 2 years, doesn't mean that we aren't program perched at the precipice of being a national power again, at least in the right hands.

If this happens would Fulmer come back just until the bleeding stopped? I dont think he's going to leave or even be offered the job, but this is why I dont worship coaches they have no loyalty to the school they represent.

@wesrucker247: Butch is no different from most other coaches. You wait to see which jobs are opened to see which ones you can leverage for the most money.
