Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

No he actually didn't. This is exactly what Butch said:

No mention of "in the SEC", no "so called experts".

Thanks- I quoted the "so called experts". That's exactly what he said.

“The so-called experts predicted, two, three, four wins with this football team,” Jones said on Vol Calls on Monday night.

Recruiting isn't the only thing Butch has done well. His marketing skills are also something I really like about him. He also has brought the "Family" back together. Bringing in former players and giving them the opportunity to give back to the University. If it wasn't for Butch we would never of got to hear Inky's beloved speech. He has embraced the old traditions and given our youth some new ones to get them excited about our program. I know most of you have to see that. The wins will come when our talent matches or surpasses our competition. But it's the intangibles that make me excited about our coach.

Solid like!

The way I look at things is, don't overpay for unproven things. Butch has potential, not deniable. But you don't pay big and hope it pays off just cause someone else is willing to do it. If UM wants to pay $3.5 mil+ for an 11-13 coach (at the big boy level) then so be it. Don't get yourself in so deep you can't afford to cut ties should that situation arise.

I am a Butch supporter, but I am with you. Butch is 11-13 overall, but just 5-11 in conference play.

I just don't see how UM could sell hiring a coach that is 5-7 and 6-6 over the last two seasons to replace a coach who was fired for going 5-7.

I also don't see how Butch could logically make the move. He is past the hardest part in rebuilding UT. Why start over from square one.

WTF does every thread lead to a Doolittle debate? Go watch the damn Cowboys, Geeeeeze

We gave Cuonzo what, a $500k raise or so? Up until his run he performed mediocrely and fans called him on it and he got his feelings hurt. Welcome to major college sports, it's why we offered to wipe his tears with $2.3 mil.

You are correct. Martin was a very average coach until the fans started the petition and made his players mad. Funny how that light bulb turned on quickly.

Anyone else seeing the rumors on Twitter that Michigan U plane inbound to Knoxville? I'm afraid this is about to get serious.

Hopefully Butch ordered an offensive coordinator or line coach and told them he wanted it overnighted.

Butch ain't leaving but I can't deny that the thought of it is terrifying. It would cripple the program. But to be fair, he isn't an idiot and has to know that Michigan is a bigger dumpster fire than Tennessee was when he took over.

I'm trying real hard to figure out what coach could of done more with the roster Butch had the last two years. I'm sure a bunch of you might have your opinions but fact is that's all they are, opinions. I mean good gracious it was a team with no depth, no O line, and a bunch of freshmen. And they still one 6 games playing the second hardest schedule in all of college football. This roster was nearly empty when he took over. Very few of the kids he has brought in have failed to produce. He's bringing in even more talent next year. Has brought new life into the program. The media is actually talking about us again. Every high school kid in the county is at the very least considering us. Two years ago we were a joke to everyone. Now nobody's laughing any more yet you think he hasn't done enough???

But what do I know? I'm just a Jr. Member of VolNation. Obviously I don't care enough about the program to have a say.

Seriously, CBJ is the real deal... an awesome coach. It's not surprising others versed in college football noticed.

At one point, I was surprised that some folks on VN didn't realize the man can coach. Then, I remembered some folks here thought Dooley could coach. Thus, some folks here don't know much about evaluating a coach.

If those folks would just admit they also liked Mike Hamilton, we will have isolated a portion of the population who elected Obama.

Raise and extension is not based on 6 wins but on the direction the program is headed and more importantly the marketplace. Mark Stoops received a raise to an average of over 3.6 million for the next five years. How would Butch Jones feel if he was paid less then the coach at Kentucky?

Don't understand why more people don't see this.

"One name we've heard a few times on the trail is Tennessee head coach Butch Jones. Two different sources we've talked to say that he would be very interested in the Michigan opening if they reciprocated it to him and one of those sources even said those on his behalf have put out feelers towards the Wolverines to gauge that interest. It's unclear how much interest Michigan would have in Jones at this point; right now, any other candidate. Note: Despite the FootballScoop report this morning on Jones telling Michigan "no" already, I talked to one source in the area that says they'd be "very surprised" if that was the case at this early a juncture."

From an article by Steve Lorenz of the Michigan 247 site.

Ok which VN member gave Dougie a brain transplant? Fess up boys, all of a sudden one post from Dougie makes sense, has to e a transplant.

Not that it will happen b/c of his move last year, but Bielema would be a good choice for UM. Proven winner in the Big10 and the right kind of attitude to square off with CUM and theOSU.
