Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Lol

Please, Hurd wasn't coming to Tennessee without Butch.

If You bring another coach in with a different philosophy your screwed.

Recruits will not come to a place with constant turmoil. And NSD is nearly 2 months away.

Hurd wasn't coming to UT with Dooley. There's a fundamental difference.

I don't know what all this talk is about butch leaving. ... but if he does...and believe me, I can't believe I'm saying this. Hire fulmer back and give cut and chief whatever ever they want to get the band back together. .

It's another 3-4 years.

Another 3-4 years there would be another coaching search.

Why would there be another coachig search? Are we firing Butch if he goes 6-6 next year? If not then the next guy would get the same opportunity as Butch. Your logic makes zero sense. Lock up Butch, a .500 coach currently and potentially even next year given the schedule but we'll automatically fire the next guy if he doesn't have immediate success?

Anyone else seeing the rumors on Twitter that Michigan U plane inbound to Knoxville? I'm afraid this is about to get serious.

Not seeing this anywhere over there and I follow several Michigan insiders. If this were true, one of them would've mentioned it.

Just an FYI but the Michigan U's flight aware tracker has been blocked according to multiple sources on Twitter. That was as of 4-5 hours ago.

The way I look at things is, don't overpay for unproven things. Butch has potential, not deniable. But you don't pay big and hope it pays off just cause someone else is willing to do it. If UM wants to pay $3.5 mil+ for an 11-13 coach (at the big boy level) then so be it. Don't get yourself in so deep you can't afford to cut ties should that situation arise.

Have you not read any of the post on here? Anything worse than 8 wins next year is unacceptable to 99% of the posters on here.

The culture now wants immediate success that's just how the cookie crumbles.

"Jones is represented by prominent agent Trace Armstrong, a former No. 1 draft choice in the NFL who spent 15 years in the league as a defensive end with the Bears, the Dolphins and the Raiders. Armstrong served as the president of the NFL players' association for a time, and currently represents several pro and college coaches — including Green Bay's Mike McCarthy, Ohio State's Urban Meyer and Michigan's Brady Hoke."

Obviously his agent is in the know with people at Michigan, so they gave Jones(along with 5 others) a courtesy call.

So VN has the power of the purse? I'd be shocked as hell if Hart did that and would never question if the man has balls or a committment to winning again. It's not happening after yr 3 unless the wheels just fly off and kill someone.

Look at what we did to Counzo.

Fans have more power than you think. If we are 5-6 heading into the vandy game and no one shows up do you think Hart keeps him?

FWIW. I believe Butch goes 8-4 next year IF the offensive line improves.

Can the line do anything other than improve? At worst, they can all fall down to the side, making the DL at least hurdle them before swarming the QB. As it stands, I've seen practice dummies put up more of a fight. If we even have the third worst line in the SEC, we are an 8 win team next year.

So why wasn't UT brining in the top recruits prior to Butch? How many 5 stars came in three years under Dooley?

Sincerly Malik Jackson, C Patt, and Mychal Riverra.

I get they weren't recruits but they are in the NFL which is the biggest seller...

We gave Cuonzo what, a $500k raise or so? Up until his run he performed mediocrely and fans called him on it and he got his feelings hurt. Welcome to major college sports, it's why we offered to wipe his tears with $2.3 mil.

Why is your only benchmark, to measure everything as it relates to Dooley? Kiffin brought in 2 in 2 months. Dooley brought in 2 in 3 yrs to answer your question. All it takes is an effort at a place like UT, thats why Dooley wasn't as successful as Butch cause he didn't even try.

Umm Malik Jackson was a transfer from USC who was persuaded to come by the Ogre; Patterson yes by some not most; Mychal Riverra not even close

Jackson was a transfer persuaded by Dooley and staff. He didn't transfer until Kiffin took over USC.

All it *took* was effort in a place like UT. You underestimate the effect that a decade of mediocrity and half a decade of putrid play can do to recruiting. Just because Kiffin and his star studded staff could come in and recruit immediately after Fulmer's departure does not say, at all, that anybody could come in now, put in a modicum of effort, and haul in top 5 recruiting classes.

And come on, we have only finished in the top 10 5 times in the previous 13 years, one of those being by Butch in 2014. So, prior to his success, we had top 10 classes 1/3 years. He has us being right on the doorstep of top 5 classes in each of his first two years. And that is following, again, the most miserable period of UT football in decades.

You really can't fail to see the impact that Butch has on recruiting, and the extent to which most other coaches would pale in comparison.

Dooley is best suited as a coaching trust fund baby and nothing more imho. He belongs on The Hills or Kardashians

Not to argue semantics but he was allowed to transfer due to the coaching change at USC without penalty. It was set in motion by the Kiffin regime before they bolted to LA and he decided for a change in scenery despite the Ogre's best efforts.

Not it wasn't. The sanctions were not announced until after Kiffin took the job. Carroll bolted before the sanctions cause he knew what was coming. Just semantics.

Butch has done a phenomenal job recruiting I won't deny it. He's not the only one capable of pulling top 15 classes and winning with that level of talent though. And to hit on the point about the past class ranks, isn't that just about everyone's knock on Fulmer at the end? He got lazy and or complacent?
