Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

He said no.

Report: Michigan contacted Jones about coaching job - GoVolsXtra Story

My brother also told me this morning that Sports Talk said to expect good news regarding CBJ today. I'm guessing contract extension and raise. Well deserved.

No raise or extension should be warranted. He's 2 yrs into a 6yr contract, he's not losing his job any time soon. He makes $3mil per year to achieve exactly what he was expected to. Contract extensions and overpaying for marginal results is what got us in the financial pit we're in. The class he's recruiting right now is guaranteed to have him as the coach for their entire careers barring a meltdown on the field or him leaving for another job. With 4 yrs left opponents can't negative recruit on grounds of him not being here.

If he wins 8+ next year then extension talks should be considered and definitely after yr 4 if he's on pace or ahead of the pace. What happens if an extension is made this season and at the end of 2016 we're still sitting at 6-6?

If Michigan were to hire Butch Jones, there would be a whole bunch of upset Michigan fans. It ain't happening.

I am not so sure Butch deserves a raise in pay. He really hasn't done anything yet.

Bottom Line is CBJ is the absolute best football coach UT could have at this present time. He sells out games with a sub .500 football team and brings in the recruits. If it takes an extension and raise to keep him, then we better bring the $$$. If he were to leave, UT would be irrelevant for a decade+.

Based on likes, 36 people think we'd be irrelevant for more than a decade if Butch left? Haha.

Butch is not bigger than UT football. Kiffin took a roster of similar talent as Butch's last year and won 7 games in year 1. Point being, we'd survive.

Lose Butch now. Lose almost all of our current recruits. Tennessee Football would be irrelevant again. It's more than W's and L's.

Yep, and there is a lot of people too dense to see it. The simpletons outnumber the people with common sense on this topic apparently.

You can't say for sure how many recruits we would lose. We might not lose any, we might lose them all, we might lose 7, we might gain 5 and have number one class. this is still UT and it will be UT even if Butch does leave. UT will be successful again and it won't be another decade.

Anyone else seeing the rumors on Twitter that Michigan U plane inbound to Knoxville? I'm afraid this is about to get serious.

Butch has brought back the Tennessee Brand that got trampled over by Lane and Derek. Sure, 6-6 is unacceptable but we has four points away from a 8-4 record.

Also, loosing Mack Crowder killed our Oline. I started too see progression until we had to move more players outta there usual position. Imo, if he didn't get hurt the Missouri game would've been a lot closer.

Can't win the Kentucky derby without thoroughbreds- Pat Summit.

Powerhouse programs are built around great recruiting: lose the recruits and TNs rise back to prominence is severely impacted.

I would like to start off by saying I am new to VolNation. (The Website of course.) But I am active on Twitter and have been for some time. I do read a lot of the posts on here and have been since I first heard of the site. Most of you on here seem very genuine and make me proud to be a Vol. Others.... Well not so much. But who am I to judge.

Now in regards to this topic. I realize that our issues with the drama Queen Kiffin must of scarred many Vol fans. Me included. But I've moved on as I hope all of you have as well. The past is the past. I know some of you see the Michigan opening and automatically assume Butch will shun us for his home state. And to some degree, it's justifiable. But not this guy.

Answer me this? What so far in the Butch Jones tenure has given you any reason to believe the man is like that pansy Kiffin? What have you seen from him other than a man who has been honest with our fan base and poured every ounce of sweat he has into rebuilding our great University back into prominence. He loves our school, players, and our fan base. He has worked to damn hard to walk away now.

I believe the man is honest. I believe he wants to win here. I believe he wants to win in the best conference in football. The man is not leaving. Unless of course certain people give up on him. I won't be one of those people.

I will always be a Vol. And until the day I see otherwise, I will support and believe in Butch Jones.

I'm aware of that and I agree. We will get the recruits.

Depends on the replacement.

Jones' sales angle has long been about how UT is a "special place". The kids in the class have developed personal relationships with each other and some of them would make it their business to keep it together.

Kiffin left and was replaced by Dooley who not only held the commits they had but also signed several prospects... and Kiffin sold Kiffin and Kiffin's staff... NOT UT.

I personally doubt that Jones is on top of Michigan's list or if there's a lot of interest on his part. He seems like a more loyal, stand up guy than to leave after two years of a rebuilding project. If he doesn't believe in how "special" UT is.... then he's a great liar. He also knows that if he goes to Michigan he starts from scratch again... and his schtick might be less believable if he talked UT up then left.

IMHO, not many signs point toward him being Michigan's guy.

And 1 class doesn't a decade make. Ask Phil, his "elite" ones couldn't keep us near the top and 1 marginal one wont sink us.

Nevermind, no program ever loses a ton of recruits. Kiffin improved USC's class when he took over for Carroll, he held UT's steady when Fulmer was let go. Hell, Dooley held serve pretty well. It's all pointless cause he's not leaving but the only way we'd flounder around at .500, or less, for a decade is to make another Dooleyesque hire.

Lol

Please, Hurd wasn't coming to Tennessee without Butch.

If You bring another coach in with a different philosophy your screwed.

Recruits will not come to a place with constant turmoil. And NSD is nearly 2 months away.

the guy got us 6 wins and a bowl appearance, and with the recruiting he does he deserves a nice raise. who else could recruit for a school that was in the shape ut was in before he got there. i understand the school sells itself but man it was in bad shape.

It isn't worth engaging. Nation has never said anything even remotely accurate in his time on VN. Heck, I bet his name isn't even really Nationdom.

He's responsible for one of the years, and the previous two were under one of the worst coaches in SEC history.

And this is relevant how? Even if the worst coach in SEC history preceded him, he still had to follow the worst coach in SEC history. It is reasonable to assume that the worst coach in SEC history left UT in one of the worst positions it has been in in quite some time.
