Michigan Contacted CBJ per FootballScoop (merged)

Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech usually runs the option type offense. Won't be popular here.

Cutcliffe is too old to desire a coaching move.

Freeze is looking to go to a job that is easier to win at than Ole PIss and U.T. is not a place where winning is easy. Florida or Georgia with easy recruiting areas would be better for him.

Petrino is untrustworthy and to hire him shows desperation on the part of our program.

Paul Johnson is a winner. Regardless of the type of offense you think we will or won't like, success is truly all that matters and he would be successful here. Having said that, Butch ain't going nowhere and I'm glad.

Although I don't have much trust in the accuracy of FootballScoop, I don't believe CBJ is going anywhere. However, just in case the unimaginable happens again (i.e. Kiffin), does anyone have any idea of possible HC candidates? I know I will get flamed for this, but I think it's worth discussing (and please for God's sake no Gruden references).

Not even worth a flame.

The media in Tennessee would hate Paul Johnson's guts because he's not a friendly guy to say the least and very arrogant. I'd love him to be UT coach if CBJ left however.

Just shut this down now, Why talk about it if Jones is in place? Also, we are going to a bowl game. For Example, I was never a huge Cuonzo Martin fan, but volnation continuously looking for his replacement "Pearl" is eventually what lead us to losing a coach who took us to the sweet sixteen last year.

The fodder for Cuonzo's ouster went way beyond message board banter. This isn't close to the same.

This. I keep wondering when this guy will get a shot at a bigger job.

It's funny, when the search first started in 2012, I said here that I thought the best course of action would be to interview Butch Jones, Gus Malzahn, and Mark Hudspeth and really try to gauge who was best cut out to make the jump to this level. Obviously, Dave Hart just grabbed the first guy he could get to say yes, but I do wonder what would have happened if a better AD really looked deeply at all 3.

I know he was an extremely popular person in Knoxville but how did the bring back Pearl movement start? Message Boards? But no need to argue I agree its a lot different situation. I just think its time volition sticks with a coach and quits worrying about who our next replacement is. I would give Jones 2 more years no matter the win/loss next year. This program needs some stability.

Johnson was my pick the last time we were hiring but you are probably correct the offense would not be popular here. I think its the perfect offense for the current situation because you don't need to recruit 5 star players to run it, just get athletes. All of the emphasis is not on the QB/wide receivers and who doesn't like their run game. Or, you can continue trying to out recruit Bama, Florida, UGA and LSU for a living, tough job.

If Tennessee is 6-6 in 2015 and 6-6 or 7-5 in 2016 CBJ will be on a very hot hotseat.

Dobbs would be awesome in that offense

I agree he would be but regardless of the record Jones should have 2 more years.

If this is true, I have to wonder how many coaches have already turned Michigan down. I cannot imagine CBJ being THAT high on their short list.

Or Michigan sees what some of our lesser fanbase can't...Butch is a darn good coach doing his best to scoop our program out of misery.

Replacing the head coach is no longer an option. What we need more than anything is stability. Hopefully the staff is learning, same as the players, how to compete in the SEC at a championship level.

You need a quick quarterback who's shifty like Thomas at GT to run it. You will struggle in the option offense if you don't have that guy GT had that problem from 2010-2013.
