When we win, it's because the opponent is bad, when we lose it's because we're bad. I get it.
Explain to me again why UGA was good. Was it because they needed a miracle to beat Colorado? Was it the loss to the Commodores? Maybe it was when UK beat them. I got it.
interesting points here.......
i'll go ahead and admit, all year long last year, i kept expecting UGA to come out of it's shell and start lighting folks up, honestly, i thought it would happen to us......i never thought UGA would play as bad as they did for as long as they did last season.
but they did......and it continued thru the Vandy and UK games......and they did get lucky agaisnst Ole Miss and Colorado.
there is though this tendency to not give credit to CPF when we do win, and another tendency to overwhelm with responsibility when we lose. is that right all the time? probably not.....but it doesn't matter. as it turned out, UGA turned out to be a team we SHOULD have beaten, not some nationally ranked powerhouse that winning over them should give us some great sense of accomplishment......
i know for sure, when they lost to Vandy and KY, my opinion of that win did change, i was still glad about it, but the shine was definitely worn off of it.
bottom line, right or wrong is, in this day and age, you don't get credit for winning games you're supposed to, you get credit for winning games that you are either supposed to lose or winning games where the other team is perceived as equal to you....which is why in most any year, TN will continue to be judged by the FL game, bowl games and SEC Title games. it's also the same reason why people don't get as "excited" about beating Bama or USC, they may be OK, but generally speaking over the past 10 years, they are teams we should beat.....thus, no big deal if we do.
it's the difference between "should beat" and "need to beat".
We need to beat UGA and UF.......we should beat most everyone else. the line between success and failure is defined with one or two games a year......it is an assumption that the other games will be won....
