My buddy and I met up at the team hotel for some graphing yesterday. This might be my first and last chance at trying for Todd. Who knows how much longer he wants to play. Granted, I can think of 20 million of I was him.

So the team was slowly making it out of the hotel and at this point I had missed on Tulo. One of the guys mentioned that Todd was hanging out in the lobby. At this point, my step dad called and said that his grandparents live next door to our good friends in LC. Well, I had to make the opportunity. I went in and introduced myself and we had mutual friends. He thought that was pretty cool and I also added that I had been a fan since he brought Knox Central into Morristown West in 1990 and left with a playoff win.

He remembered that game mainly because he was playing against a future teammate in Little Man Stewart. So I asked him if we wouldn't mind signing a bat before leaving in the cab. He said, "sure, cmon". The 20 plus dudes waiting outside swarmed him but he waited and reached over the crowd for my bat.

Stand up guy who appears hasn't changed a bit since leaving East Tennessee. I'm sure some on this board may know him personally. Top 5 coolest athletes i've had the pleasure of meeting.

Have met Helton myself when he frequented the local Knoxville watering holes in the early 90's. Nice guy with a good attitude. I was at the 94 UCLA game when he threw a hell of a block on a guy turning the corner. I went to Athens the next week or so and I think that was his last start. It was Manning from there on out. Helton hung up his football gear and focused on baseball. Great athletic talent! How bout that. A hall of fame B-ball player and a hall of fame football player starting games the same year. GBO!!!

At a Braves/Rockies game several years ago my nephew, who was about 8, was at the edge of the Rockies dugout before the game with a baseball. I went down to where he was and noticed Todd was several feet down the left field line signing autographes. I yelled "hey Todd, we got some Vols fans down here". He looked up and pointed to me. He signed a couple more autographs and came straight to us and took my nephews ball and autographed it. Great guy, no doubt.

He is thought very highly of out here in Denver, particularly for being down-to-earth and approachable.

Played against Helton in high school. He's first class.

Watched him play against Bearden several times. My GF was a big Bearden fan. Bearden had a really good team, also, but I remember Bearden best when Todd was a senior. Bulldogs had a really good catcher as I remember. Wasn't really following HS baseball at the time...too busy.

saw him hit the road behind Bearden's baseball stadium. Him hitting in HS was almost unfair

The old district 3-AAA was very good high school baseball back then. Helton was still the best player from the moment he walked on the field as a freshman. He was one of the few guys I've ever seen whose hype didn't do him justice.

I Concur. Todd and I were on the same baseball team the at the beginning of his baseball career at the age of 7. He was actually put in the 9 year old little league group because there was no age group for the 7 year olds. He was one of best players on our team and his dad was very constructive introducing him to the game.

He was a very sound basketball player in middle school when we played together on the all-star basketball team.

Was gonna say the same thing. Denver loves him. Fingers crossed he retires here. Rare these days that players stay with the same organization for their entire career.
