Message from Heuple at Basketball game

Chasing a squirrel here, but I'm a huge fan of Grant and Sherman. Being a literal "Son of the South", this has caused me no small share of grief over the years. That being said, my family has roots in the southern Appalachians, and that area was more Union-leaning than Confederate, so maybe it's just in my DNA.

I've read a number of books about the history, experiences, strategy, and unique relationship between Grant and Sherman. Each one brilliant in their own way, and also damaged in their own unique way. But as a pair, they were among the best wartime commanders this nation has ever seen. Right up there with Ike and George, IMO.

Just thought I'd share that useless tidbit.

Go Vols.

Just thought I'd Cringe.

Lost me with “individuals” and “best staffs in the country”. Reminds me of another coach that was here. They are called players or young men. As far as staffs, simply say you are building a solid staff of coaches you trust to rebuild the program.

Does anybody have the clip (or know where to find it) of Heuple's address to the fans at TBA during tonights game against Kansas? The tv broadcast was too busy shoving Vital's nauseating voice in our ears to hear what he might have said.

Along with his name call babble.. God I hate having to hear him and will usually just watch something else. But it was Tenn. playing so I suffered through his BS. When will he ever just fade into retirement? Do you know anyone who enjoys his color commentary? I don't.

Yeah, Grant and Sherman,,,,,, I live in the shadow of Shiloh. On our side of the river we had a strong Union leaning not so the other side (the Shiloh side). So hearing stories about the before, DURING and after the battle, Grant and Sherman from both sides don't come off so well. Yes they get the credit for a victory, but the real credit for the most part lies with other generals. Grant won most of his battles because he had more of everything to fight with. Sherman, the same, he was given great credit for his "drive through Ga.". Yes, great job running through a paper southern resistance. If you want to know where his ability for this run came from, just look to the battles around Nashville and middle Tn. at that time. Without the success of those battles, he would have had nowhere near enough supplies to go all the way to the coast. Sorry this has nothing to do with football, but don't make these to guys out to be shining lights of history.

I won't fault a guy who's actively trying to enliven the fans. The previous regime went out of their way to stifle any enthusiasm. Does it mean he lacks substance? Does it make him Butch or Bruce? No. I'll just watch and enjoy what I can while we all see how this chapter turns out. These can either be signs we look back on and say this foretold success or failure. Labeling it now is purely based upon who you wanted hired. If he's acceptable, you like it. If you wanted Gruden or others, you don't. None of us anywhere know what this teams future is at this point.

Another squirrel. When I retire in a few years, we are returning to the Holy Land (East Tennessee). We want to be close to the Smokies. Property values in Wears Valley and Townsend are unreal, so we are slowly working our way south, down towards Tellico Plains. We vacation in the mountains every May. This year, we have two weeks, so we will start scouting in earnest for an acre or few we can put a 2-BR cabin on and watch the sun set over the hills.

Maryville would be nice, as would the Seymour area. But it's almost impossible to find a reasonable measure of privacy, with a reasonable view, at a reasonable price. Should have done this years ago. Now, we're just looking for a piece of land that says "this is it."

Much like with the Vols, hope springs eternal. It's out there. We just have to find it.

Good thing you aren't looking for a place in and round Nashville. Makes looking for a place in E TN. seem like a "give away".

we live across the hill from Tellico Plains in Etowah. Great land prices compared to the Maryville area.
Beautiful area.

Go VOLS
Also look at Polk County, just a tad south. Property in Bradley County is skyrocketing due to demand.

well yeah. We don't play to Sept 4...

Understood. However, you can't just require 'positive energy.' That's like saying "the beatings will continue until attitudes improve."

On the other hand, Heuple can try to win support by telling fans what he's going to do to create the 'positive energy' I keep hearing both he and White keep talking about.

Bottom line, I think White and Heuple are confusing positive energy with potential energy, with the former being a result of the latter.

I get your comments, considering the amount of BVS that we're both feeling. At the same time, he feels like he needs to promote a positive outlook. I mean, he could have said, "I hope to build a staff that is better than mediocre. I anticipate the staff will be better than average. This will be difficult since I was hired a week before the second NSD, but we'll try to bring in somebody that hasn't committed yet." I'm not trying to be an a--hole or Pollyana, but all VN needs to give CJH and his staff (and whoever hasn't entered the transfer portal) a chance before we completely turn on them.

I’m sure whatever he said will have y’all revising your predicted win total for next year up by an average of about 1.3 wins

Why not this is the nature of fans. Should we not get excited? My boss and another co-worker are Gator and Bama fans respectively. They are enjoying us being down. Also they sound like many on here in “trying” to temper our delusions with this new staff. We are down currently. Mired in the uncertainty of potential NCAA sanctions. Yet we have a proven offensive mind leading the Vols. We have no idea of what his staff will look like. What we do know is that we have some retuning weapons on offense and a floundering defense. So I am excited to watch a different brand of football and potentially score a bunch of points.

I’m not complaining-just chuckling a little. Go for it. Sheeping it up is def more fun than the alternative.

That is a popular way of saying blindly following. This is not what choosing to have hope over gloom is. I see count 5 wins, 3 losses, & 4 toss up games next year.

There are no gimmies with our current team. I hope everyone can stay positive and behind this guy if we go 4-8 this Fall.
