Merks future ?

He’ll work hard and prepare for every game as if he’s going to have to go in…he’s a competitor. He red shirted last year so he’s burning a year of eligibility regardless if he plays or not so he won’t have to worry about trying to save a year. He will reevaluate his future in December. If Joey is the starter and he’s solid #2, he’ll probably stay and compete in the spring. But if it gets crazy and MacIntyre ends up as the starter and plays well. He might move on compete somewhere Elise in the spring.

In this new era of college football with free transfers, I figure most teams are going to have two “blue chip” QBs - their returning blue chip starter (or most likely starter) coming into spring practice and either a true freshman or redshirt freshman blue chip as the most likely backup…you’re not going to have a third blue chip QBs as sophomore or junior if they aren’t the starter - they will transfer out to get playing time Before they risk being 3rd string.

Think he bolts ? He can't beat out Fazion
Why not? I'm not predicting he will only that coronating incoming "highly touted" QBs hasn't worked out all that well over the past several years.

Were you here when Harrison Bailey was a recruit and then Freshman? He was supposedly a "starter day one" according to ratings and some fans. He played at NM State and Louisville after flopping with the Vols. Never became a regular starter.

I don't know what Merklinger's upside is. Maybe he decides to be a career back up or goes somewhere else... or develops and wins the job at UT. What I DO know... is that you don't know either.

In this day and age we will be lucky if he doesn’t leave school tomorrow. Either now or the end of the season puts CJH in a tough spot. He will be forced to go after another portal QB and the dilemma will be one that can start next season while Brandon develops or a back up type.
He is making 1 million he will stay and see if his number gets called.

We are not haters, he had his chance, he's been here longer and Gmac is already better than him.
Guess it depends on how you define it. I consider a “hater” anyone who doesn’t think a player will play and play well. I like Merk and wish him well, but I think GMAC is going to pass him soon.

This^^^ why can’t some understand this and I get it Arch Manning just did but he had a lot of NFL experience in his camp giving him advice that was best for his future. Most of these other kids have agents in their ear who know that their max value is when they are on the field not the bench.

I see Arch mentioned a few times here and how he’s sat 2yrs and willing to wait.

Arch isn’t a good example to use. It’s a lot different when you’re coming in with a leg up. He’s a Manning and comes from a family with money and resources. That’s a lot different than a kid that’s trying to get to the big money to take care of their family and improve their living situation.

Guess long story short. Arch has the luxury to sit and learn which should pay off in the long run

Agreed!! Arch’s family has the resources and previous NFL experience in his camp that have his best long term interest in mind. Most of these kids have an agent that only has money on their mind and do not care about what is best for the kid.

Aguilar won the job, but what does that mean for MacIntyre? MacIntyre will now likely redshirt, which is possibly the best-case scenario for the Tennessee Volunteers. This will likely be a two-man show between Aguilar and Merklinger this season, but don't think for one second Josh Heupel and his staff won't burn the redshirt if they need to.

After Hype told them what the deal was GMac should've gave JA a congrats, thanked coached, turn around and walk out and went to the cafeteria and ordered a ribeye, texas toast, grilled chicken breast, some boiled eggs, load potatoe, glass of milk and started studying the playbook and watching game film, then off to the weight room
