Merklinger as QB

I think I've seen enough to know that if Aguilar ever goes down this season, MacIntyre needs to be the guy. Merk is a dumpling. Soft and bland and he should be making the same throws in the same offense as Aguilar against a terrible team like UAB. We went from operating on all cylinders to stalling on the highway with our emergency blinkers on 🙄

Come on, dude this is your interview for the staring role and you're blowing it!
Who is Merklinker? Is he better than Merklinger? I hope so.

I will never understand the fans that are upset with the team because they lost money on a silly bet. I don't care that much about supporting the organized crime benefitting from the influx of gambling with no control. The closest i get is buying a lottery ticket, and even that is more than one should spend. I don’t care if we win by 1 or 100. I am glad that they played as many as they did. A lot of freshmen got some very valuable experience. It is evident that Merklinger is not a good fit for the offense. Why risk GM in a game that was chippy. Give Merklinger a chance to show what he can do. Unfortunately for him, he did. Judge the team on how they played, not whether they cost you money on a silly bet.

When has any recruited QB ever come out looking like a gunslinger in their first couple of years?

I mean. Just. Let's face it. The three best QBs at UT - Hooker, Milton, and now Aguilar, were all transfer upperclassmen. Milton, of the three, had been here the longest, but he wasn't the "guy" until his fifth year. Nico never looked like the guy, and Merklinger seems like he's struggling to run the system as well.

Makes me wonder if even Macintyre will look like the guy when it's his chance to step up. I certainly hope so. But more to the point, I hope Merklinger looks more in command next year since he'll have been here three years now. I hope.
Maybe I’m confused, is that your top 3 of UT qb

Jake Merklinger committed to Tennessee over a lot of other colleges. He could have went someone else and played but he stayed here. A lot of players would have transferred after last season rather than spend another season sitting behind Nico. He has proven he is a Vol For Life. I think we owe the kid a little more respect than essentially pushing him out the door. In a climate where players can jump ship several times through the year, we should acknowledge loyalty to the team. I personally dont see the kid ever starting here, but I respect the heck out of his dedication and work.

He and a lot of players who play other position could have gone elsewhere.. Sometimes you gets highly ranked players who need more seasoning than others or are just not able to live up to expectations. Need to give players the opportunity to prove their worth.

Freshman and RS Freshman QBs rarely ever look like all conference players, especially in a conference like the SEC. Just look all throughout college football. Most fanbases are underwhelmed with their sky high expectations for their young inexperienced QBs.

G-Mac will probably have some growing pains, but so far every time he steps on the field he plays great. He maneuvers in the pocket like a seasoned vet. He just needs to gain weight.....like alot of weight.

Organized crime benefits from the influx of legal gambling? This is a really dumb opinion

The year they are in doesn’t matter.

Like the announcer said today.
JA plays fast mentally.

Like hooker did.

Joe didn’t, Nico didn’t, Merk doesn’t.

Before JA people said a QB needed a year in the system to get it down.
JA has proven that is not true!!!
JA has always had to play fast mentally. App state was horrible. It also played a part on why he threw so many picks last year. His team was always in an awful position and he had to try to do too much to keep them in the game.

I remember some on here arguing with me that Merk gives us the best chance to win, 1 even saying someone he knows is on the team saying how good Merk was🤣🤣🤣 I told him I've been to practice I've seen with my own 2 eyes how Joey is the better QB.. still argued with me...wish I could remember who that was😂

I just don’t think a QB is going to excel in the offense until they are juniors or seniors. Nico struggled mightily as a RSF and Merk looks like he would struggle if he were the starter.
That’s no reason to get down on him. It’s not common for any program for a first or second year QB to have a Heisman worthy campaign.

That’s really what we’re hoping for in the Heupel offense. Repeats of Hendon Hooker and Joey Aguilar.

Doesn't matter who wins the job next season, he's gonna be facing an absolutely brutal schedule. Doubt any of the three will avoid major struggles. Might need all three to make it through the season. This is the year to make that. Are we up to it? Will the injury bug give us a break?

Agree. He just doesnt have “it”. Looks confused, unsure, and hesitant. All things that lead to being a bad qb.
Umm he’s very mentally inexperienced in live game action, however his footwork is hawt garbage. I think he’s clumsy and probably not a fit for the system. I’d encourage him to find a better fit by portal, keep Mac IF he can be a better fit to bridge Faizon
