It’s a problem. Some of these “agents” also are an issue. You’ve got some of the dumbest and most predatory actors playing like they’re “agents”. It’s not good for the athletes nor college football.Eventually we will see unionization and a cba in place which will help bring some level of stability at least surface level but we are talking about a sport still run by rich, corrupt boosters. They’ll just start back with payments under the table.
IMO....to keep him around. If he bolted we'd be left with a transfer that will have less than 5 months to prepare and a true freshman. We'd be in worse shape than we had before the transfer.I don't care if it's not close to the demands Nico was making. The point still remains that we didn't pay Nico cause his production last year didn't warrant a bump in salary. So what did Merk do last year to warrant a bump in salary?
Unfortunately, the system isn't set up to pay them for what they have done. It's to pay them for how badly you need them, and the players recognize that. Screwed up, yes, but that is the system we have currently.I don't care if it's not close to the demands Nico was making. Brandon may never make it to campus, who knows these daysI disagree.
Since a raise for G-Mac isn't noted, there must be (in Heupel's mind) little chance G-Mac actually beats Merk or Aguilar.
A raise for both Merk and G-Mac would mean Heupel is gearing up for a 3 man QB1 competition, but it seems he's only looking at a 2 man competition for QB1.
As an aside, if G-Mac DOES win QB2 or QB1, Merk will transfer in December. If he can't beat out the freshman G-Mac, he'll never beat out the freshman Brandon IMO.
Yep...Hearing some other schools making a push. I use to say I never cared about an recruit until he signed and got on campus. Now that doesn't even mean anything anymore.
Of course you hate it. I love how folks want a top 5 recruiting class. How the hell do you keep em? Coach ain’t coaching…..he’s looking for effing money. It’s insane.Yeah I may be being too hard. Maybe they saw enough in practice and maybe it’s fair for the kid to stick around at this point but damn I hate this crap.
This is why contracts, salary caps and xfer portal/free agency rules/limitations will eventually find their way into cfb somewhere along the way. This model is unsustainable and out of control.Imagine being a James Madison fan and watching damn near your entire starting roster switch to Indiana.
Just wait till a major name coach switches schools and takes like 30 players right before the deadline and destroys an entire program.
This is literally a chit show.
I don't know, but maybe we paid the UCLA transfer more than Merk was getting?I don't care if it's not close to the demands Nico was making. The point still remains that we didn't pay Nico cause his production last year didn't warrant a bump in salary. So what did Merk do last year to warrant a bump in salary?

Well that's interesting. Everywhere else I've read says that there are no binding contracts, hence all the chaos with jumping ship, re negotiations, etc. If there are in fact "binding contracts"... what's the problem? Somebody must be writing some REALLY ****** contracts for us!Of course there are contracts, which establish the basis for getting paid.
Dude we are taking Honorable Mention All Great Lakes Conference players in the portal. We aren’t competing with those teams in recruiting aside from two or three guys a class.I get it. But are you saying that you want to bank on a future at the position where we don't give ma$$ive incentive to POTENTIAL stars before they produce, and only pay those who have production? Remember, we are recruiting against Bama, LSU, and OSU. Is that the approach you really want?![]()
