Eventually we will see unionization and a cba in place which will help bring some level of stability at least surface level but we are talking about a sport still run by rich, corrupt boosters. They’ll just start back with payments under the table.

It’s a problem. Some of these “agents” also are an issue. You’ve got some of the dumbest and most predatory actors playing like they’re “agents”. It’s not good for the athletes nor college football.

IMO....to keep him around. If he bolted we'd be left with a transfer that will have less than 5 months to prepare and a true freshman. We'd be in worse shape than we had before the transfer.

Also, likely as not - aside from production - that TN decided they wanted Nico's camp to pitch their disruptive tent elsewhere, and not budging on NIL $ was a way to hasten that. I think if TN had given Spyre a wink and nod, they'd have found some more money.

Once he missed practice and the O&W, there was no going back.

Unfortunately, the system isn't set up to pay them for what they have done. It's to pay them for how badly you need them, and the players recognize that. Screwed up, yes, but that is the system we have currently.

A raise for both Merk and G-Mac would mean Heupel is gearing up for a 3 man QB1 competition, but it seems he's only looking at a 2 man competition for QB1.

As an aside, if G-Mac DOES win QB2 or QB1, Merk will transfer in December. If he can't beat out the freshman G-Mac, he'll never beat out the freshman Brandon IMO.

Imagine being a James Madison fan and watching damn near your entire starting roster switch to Indiana.

Just wait till a major name coach switches schools and takes like 30 players right before the deadline and destroys an entire program.

This is literally a chit show.

Interesting. Does anyone feel he is really ever going to be the starter? Hard to pay a guy if you don't think he sticks around.

Maybe wrong, but I assumed that the Aguilar contract would mean an increase for Merk since they are essentially QB1A and QB1B. You can’t really have the guy with seniority making less than the junior guy with the same title.

This is why contracts, salary caps and xfer portal/free agency rules/limitations will eventually find their way into cfb somewhere along the way. This model is unsustainable and out of control.

Well that's interesting. Everywhere else I've read says that there are no binding contracts, hence all the chaos with jumping ship, re negotiations, etc. If there are in fact "binding contracts"... what's the problem? Somebody must be writing some REALLY ****** contracts for us!

Dude we are taking Honorable Mention All Great Lakes Conference players in the portal. We aren’t competing with those teams in recruiting aside from two or three guys a class.
