Mentioning potentially John Brown at practice this morning...

LWS, why do you think they are being negative about JB passing the required hours? Or is it more than that? I understood that if he passed the required number of hours and had a 2.0 gpa for the semester, that he was in.

I have not heard any reason. Have heard concerns of how poorly he did first summer semester and concern he couldn't get enough done in second semester.

I haven't asked about what he needed to accomplish. Just not my business how much he has to do. He either gets it or he don't.

I said after walls and martin got hurt, losing them would not cost us any games. Doesn't matter if we get Brown or not, I don't see him winning us any additional games. Would love to have him this year getting experience for next year assuming he could stay on track.

Ever since that holier than thou feminist at UGA raised hell with their program years ago, the pointy heads have been on their lala land high horses. There is nothing worse than an educated idiot.

Hey Cletus, if school offends you so much, then why waste your time following the "University of Tennessee" football team? There's plenty of football you can watch without having to worry about whether college students are actually, you know, passing classes.

I actually graduated from UT, but I can tell you that a lot of you guys in academia have your heads where the sun doesn't shine. I am totally for student athletes passing their academic requirements, but the attitudes of many "academicians" are to exercise their little power trips to make themselves feel important. Get out and get a real job or start a business and see how things are in the real world.

I haven't spent a minute of my career in academia. It must be really odd to have such a cartoonish worldview that you automatically make wildly wrong assumptions about everything you come across.

This kid has to pass classes to play. His instructors aren't "exercising a power trip to make themselves feel important" because they're not gaming the system on his behalf; what part of "grades aren't final yet" didn't you understand?

It is my opinion that many SEC fans would be OK with completely abandoning academic requirements for football players in order to simply become the Developmental League of the NFL.

UT has such nice tutor facilities for athletes. If one cannot pass a class with that help, then I'm not sure what else we can do.

The sad thing is these kids can't make it in school but may have the talent for the NFL, and so instead of making millions in the NFL they make minimum wage working a crappy job. I think a lot of these kids float through high school where they are the like celebrities because they are gifted athletes and expect the same treatment once they walk on a college campus.

Alot has to be blamed on the high schools and family atmosphere where these kids come from for not preparing them enough for college.

Wait a second...football players are going to class? I thought that is why they had tutors!

any word on him yet? I know the guys on 1180 were saying their "sources" were saying they didn't think he made it, but we all know how accurate they are sometimes

I sincerely doubt they are making him wait. I do work in academia, and the faculty has to have grades in by Friday. I'm at a TBR school, so I don't know if UT's grades have to be in on the same day or not, but my guess is that his professors are trying to get all of their classes graded with little care one way or another about when a certain student's final grades get posted.

My wife is a college professor. During summer school, she has 80 students in two classes and barely has time to grade papers. I am also certain that she wouldn't even be aware that X student is a football player waiting on a grade to determine his eligibility. All she is doing is trying to grade 80 research papers and finals and get them submitted before the deadline.

Just because we may be obsessive about X players grade does not mean his professors are.

RUMOR:

On Basilio's show, he got a text that Brown had a cart and was moving stuff. Not sure if that means he was moving in or moving out though.

Stay tuned...

I can think of only two ways to take this:

1. He has a luggage cart and he's at the airport.
2. He has a grocery cart and he is homeless.

Since this is Basilio we're talking about, isn't there that guy Bryce was going to room with. Maybe dude still needs a roomie.

3. He's using a golf cart to move stuff around the football field?

Seriously though, Basillo's info (sans X) is worthless.
