Memphis Sports Talk

You can play the race card all you want, but my problem with memphis is the fact it is dangerous and apparently unwelcoming to outsiders.

The 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America - 24/7 Wall St. - National - The Atlantic

Memphis is 5th on this list, and other places I have looked also have them in their top ten to fifteen most crime filled streets in america.

i moved to Memphis from Atlanta and i will say that i was never welcome in that city. 4 years i lived there. the people, in my experiences, were very hateful and rude to people from elsewhere. it seemed to me like everyone knew one another and or were to cliquish and tight-knit. plus it's too flat and hot. and the people i am referring to were people of the suburbs. (Georgetown,Cordova). but i am also very aware that this is only an extremely small sample of the city and cannot be used to define or label, or what have you, anything about the city of Memphis.

i'm going to have to agree with this statement, although rendezvous is quite good. corkys is only for tourists.

Rendezvous and Corkys are alright but there are better places. My favorites are The Germantown Commissary and Central BBQ.

Wow!, This thread is almost as bad as what it's in reference too. Nice job Vol Nation! You've managed to bash a 70+ year old sports talk host, Memphis, Memphis Sports Talk, and every county from Jackson Tennessee to the Mississippi River.

I happen to live in Arlington, Tennessee which kindly falls with in the area you guys have been bashing. Get your facts straight. Saying Memphis and the surrounding areas is a joke because of the comments of 1 person is no different that saying Knoxville is a joke for having one of the biggest idiots known to UT sports on the radio there.

This thread is joke.

cool! i used to live in arlington, love that little town.

Germantown Commissary and Neely's is where it's at.

Corky's is pretty good too.

Lately though, the only BBQ I eat is Neely's BBQ nachos.

I've been meaning to try Neely's. You cant beat a generous portion of BBQ nachos.

I can't believe through all of this nonsense no one has mentioned Blues City Cafe. Ribs are flat out some of the best (if you like dry ribs), the tamales are infreakincredible and the garlic shrimp in the black skillet will put you on your a$$!

It is a hole in the wall, but I have traveled from Hong Kong to Tokyo to Seattle to NY to Key West and on and on. For the food and REAL live music, it is hands down the best.

Dearstone is such an insufferable douche. Worst radio "personality" I've ever come across, and that includes Nick Bonsanto in Chattanooga.

I don't know, lapides is pretty bad. Although norsworthy is pretty bad too, at least in my opinion. I do like Parker on the Press Box. GP is pretty good over on espn.

Since e are also talking about food, Gus's Chicken is the shiat.

This thread is has more ignorance per post than perhaps anywhere on internet. You guys have outdone yourselves.

There are great people AND $h!tbags in every city, town, and village in the world.

That is all. Carry on with the nonsense.

Corkey's? What about Central and Interstate, The BBQ shop is very good also.

During my 8 year sentence to Memphis for work I tried them all. Central was my favorite. Now that I am home Martins and Jacks are my favorites. I wish Central would move to Nashville:)

Yea, its a bunch of BS what the reporters are saying about moving SEC medias days out of Hover (Bham)

Not sure what your point is. What part of my post are you disagreeing with? That there are good people in Memphis, or that are bad people.

WTF are you talking about? The media (not all), has been saying that the SEC Media Days needs to be moved, basically because B ham is is high class enough, which I totally disagree with.

Now I gotcha. Thought we were doing some more city bashing I've read it might get moved to Atl to a bigger venue.

I disagree. Lived here for 21 years, and I don't really get hungry for barbecue very much, but I absolutely love Corky's wet ribs. Sooooo delicious.

.....Memphis, the Detriot of the south, is not a sports town, never has been. Locals don't know the difference so sports writers and commentators can get by with anything..
