Does anyone have recommendations on good Memphis sports talk shows on radio that devote some time to the Vols?

I've been so addicted to Sirius satellite radio I rarely turn on the local stations anymore and have no idea who carries what.

Thanks in advance.

Try AM 1510 WLAC out of Nashville at night. I pick it up way down here in Montgomery.

Man, used to love listening to them from Memphis years ago. Bob Bell and Bill King had a great show. WLAC replaced them with some political hack and I have missed them ever since.

None of them are totally devoted to the Vols. There are just too many programs of interest here. So they have to cover Ole Miss, Miss. St, Ark, Memphis, and Tennessee. AM 560 is the only one that is at least local sports talk all day. The others are AM 680 Fox Sports Radio with national shows, and AM 730 ESPN Radio with national shows.

I figured that. That's why I asked about shows that "devote some time to the Vols."

I appreciate everyone's recommendation as to stations- but I was hoping someone would have recommendations as to specific shows/times where I can hear some football talk.

The shows pretty much talk about whatever they feel like. No one is dedicated to covering Tennessee and actually I feel like none of them want to and only do it out of obligation. From what I gather from folks who live there, Nashville has far better Vols coverage on all their sports talk stations. Sorry I can't help with the Memphis stations any, I have been listening to them for about 2 years trying to find the same thing. It's not there, and it's usually just Ole Miss and Arkansas garbage. If you think Vol calls is bad just listen to the Coach O call in show. Talk about Kool Aid drinkers...geesh.

I'm actually a big fan of Chris Vernon's show. He doesn't devote that much time to the Vols, but you can't call him jealous of Tennessee at all.

He's just a pretty freaking funny guy, and usually right on when he calls them.

I have a feeling Ole Miss fans probably hate him, though. I believe he predicted they'd go 2-10 or 3-9 this year. That was up from his initial 1-11 prediction. :whistling:

No comment on the accuracy of that statement.

Yea, Memphis LOATHS all things orange!

there are more UT fans in the city and surrounding areas than there are UMemphis fans.

But most of the UMemphis fans hate all things orange.

They are jealous of our athletic success, that our academics are better, and that we 'get all the money' from the state.

Yeah, I'm sure Memphis is really jealous of our basketball history. How many times have we reached as much as the Elite Eight? That's right. Two fewer times than Memphis has in the last two seasons. You wonder why Memphis hates UT? Being delusional enough to think our basketball history hangs with what they've accomplished is Exhibit 1.

Yeah they are not jealous at ALL of all the NCAA NC's UT has...

How many does Memphis have in total?? all sports combined???

There are delusional Memphis fans, as well. They'll talk crap about UT football. It happened at the game last year. I can't believe how many Tigers commented that UT was "afraid" to play Memphis. I think the series score is something like 21-1. Additionally, I can't count how many times I've been to a bar here in Memphis to witness a large mass of people rooting (passionately) for whoever UT is playing in whatever sport. I mean, there's just no way 30 LSU fans are gathered in a bar in Memphis during the SEC BBall tourney.

By the way, you missed your deification in another thread.

Yeah, I notice how many fans Memphis draws for women's basketball. It's so obvious they're really into that. UT history in swimming and track is certainly a sore spot. I notice how much of FedEx's money they burn buliding facilities for those sports. News flash: Memphians, like most of the civilized sports world, could give two damns about meaningless, minor sports. Otherwise, everyone would be jealous of Stanford.

Ever heard of Football??

How much time do you spend around Memphis fans?

I'm guessing very little.

I grew up around them. I know what I am talking about.

I spend plenty of time around Memphis fans. Will be spending a couple of days in the Big Apple with them next week. The vast majority of them view sports like I do: football is a cute diversion between basketball seasons.

A couple days is not 'plenty of time'. Try spending the first 18 years of your life with them.

Oh another thing they are jealous of: BCS.

It's easy to have that view when your football team epically sucks.

Yeah, Cal lies awake at night concerned about the football team not having direct access to a major bowl. It's just killed his recruiting.

That explaines your loyolty to Tiger High. If I sucked at football like the tigers I would have that same stance. So, Vol fan or Tiger Fan?
