I live in Memphis and have the misfortune of having to listen to these clowns everyday on the radio to try and get my sports talk fix. Within a span of 30 minutes around midday today they were bangin on UT for not playing a tough out of conference schedule this season and also had a personality on there saying he thought we would get slammed hard in football by the NCAA and would lose scholarships along the lines of what bama had years ago and it would take us a minimum of 5 years to recover once the NCAA handed down the punishments. Ended it all by saying we need to stop looking at current AD's for our open position and start looking at Associate AD's and then was so gracious to mention we need to look at Ole Miss for their associate AD. Shocking right? A Memphis guy being a homer for Ole Miss thinking their athletic department has so much going for them right now. HAHA!!! Oh and the scheduling issue, come on, this is one year we arent playing at least one good to great team in nonconference play and they wanna jump all over it. How bout Tiger High put together a repectable basketball schedule for once and try and draw more than 2,000 to a home football game and get in a BCS conference before tryin to pile onto UT while we're in a rut. I know this is ranting but I hate, literally hate, Memphis sports radio and just needed this forum to air it out. At least I know I have you guys right? Great times are ahead for UT and I can't wait to be here in Memphis to gloat when we get back to the top. GO VOLS!!!!!!!

I was listening to the same today.

Greg Gaston and Eli Savoie are actually a decent show show imo, but I was wondering the same about them beating up on Tenn non cof schedule. We're one of the few SEC schools that routinely have at least one good noncof opponent. This year is just an anomaly.

However George Lapidas is a moron. He's the one that was talking about Tenn losing a bunch of scholarships. Pay no attention to anything he says. He's never liked Tennessee and has never missed a chance to badmouth us.

Memphis? Oh yea, the city with a joke of a football team and always headlining cops or 48 hours.

Well at least you get to listen to the mid day show the morning show is even worse. Today instead of talking about sports they were talking about what were the worse songs of all times. While that was bad at least they got rid of Ron Tillary who was a complete joke. It was days like today I wish i could still listen to Bill King.

Some Memphis radio hosts are idiots, but they all have to appeal to the beloved Memphis Tiger fans in the metro area. I always listen to Lapides in the fall ,because he always has good guests like Greg Roberts. Gaston and Savoie are not too bad. The worst show, by far, is Rain Man with John Rainey.

I hear you about Memphis sports radio not being the best and the comments about us getting the death penalty like Bama were stupid. HOWEVER, your rant is VERY misinformed for the other following reasons --

(1) UT's non-conference football schedule is not only bad this year, but we flaked on the opportunity to play a great game against a good opponent on national TV, in the GA Dome (hello Ga recruiting!) simply to raise our chances of winning more games. Call it what you want -- I call it chicken **** on UT's part and a missed opportunity.

(2) As for Memphis basketball's non-conference schedule, not sure what you're talking about. Tigers consistently have one of the toughest schedules in the country. In 2011, the Tigers start out at the Maui Invite (the same tourny Tennessee will be playing in BTW), which features Duke, Kansas, Michigan, and UCLA, and Georgetown. They've already added L'ville, Georgetown, Xavier, Belmont, Miami and TN. There are still a few open spots to fill for the non-conference slate, but Pastner has been quoted as saying that he believes the Tigers will have one of the top 10 toughest non-conference schedules in the Country in 2011 -- Memphis Tigers add Robert Morris to schedule .

(3) These guys aren't the first to say that we need to look at Associate AD's, so I'm not so sure why you are pissed. Given the interest we (haven't) gotten from top notch AD's, we likely won't have a choice but to go with an associate AD. As for Ole Miss's Assoc. AD, there could be better choices, but there could be a lot worse too.

Cincinnati was contending for bcs bowls when we scheduled the game. It's not our fault they will now be owned. Clowns can suck their own toe jam

Is there such a thing as "good sports radio" when the home team isn't getting slurped?

(1) I think our recruiting will be just fine regardless of taking the NC game or not. Playing a game in the GA Dome would have been nice but I think we recruit Georgia just fine regardless of one game played in Atlanta or not. I think before the season is over we will be glad we dropped the NC game.

(2) You are pointing out one season in particular in regards to Memphis' bball schedule. More years than not their schedule out of that miserable excuse of a conference they are in is average at best. As far as the Maui tournament, is that tournament a round robin? I only ask because those are wonderful teams that are in the tournament but they will not play all of them, maybe not even most of them but I could be wrong. Belmont is good, but please never use Miami as an example of a tough foe on the schedule. I am basically saying more years than not their schedule should be tougher to balance out the pathetic CUSA slate.

(3) I am not pissed at stating that we may need to look at an Associate AD. I just know how much they try and pump up Ole Miss given the geographic location it has to Memphis and there is nothing about Ole Miss or their athletic department that I would like to resemble. I just found that funny.

All in all, just had a moment today where I felt like going off on some of the jibberish I heard. I will say no more on the matter because I really am ashamed of myself now for reading what I just typed and realized I have been discussing tiger high basketball. Not a strong moment for me. Sorry guys :mf_surrender:

Wait, Memphis has a sports radio? The same city (Which I live in by the way...so I can talk **** about...those of you who don't **** kindly), who is more worried about trying to get a NFL team then work on their own college football team? They should take at the support the Grizzlies get...it wasn't until they made it to the play offs did that place ever sale out....screw what they say about UT. They've got their heads so far up their ass in this city, they can't tell the taste between **** and french fries.

I work with two Ole Miss grads from Memphis. Not bad guys but both were private school rich kids.
