Memphis Players

See, this garbage is probably what pisses off and alienates Memphis players. Like it or not, Memphis is a vital part to Tennessee.

I agree with you to an extent. But this "garbage" like it or not is mostly true. Most folks in the rural areas of W TN have an opinion of Memphis. Usually it's not favorable.

Then what part of the state would you say it is if not the western part?

To understand why Memphis isn't "West TN" you would have needed to live there. Yes geographically it is...but culturally it isn't a great deal like rural WT...and nothing like the rest of TN. The love for everything Vol is different. Go to any dime store from Huntingdon to Halls and you will see nothing but UT stuff...don't see that in Memphis. Every athlete in rural West Tennessee dreams of wearing Orange...not in Memphis...although I wish it was so. Memphis is its own entity referred to as the "Mid South". You will likely hear much more about MS or AR news on Memphis stations than you even will about West TN. For those of you that have lived there am I not right?

I lived in rural West Tn for 18 years and Memphis for the past 20 plus, so yes I know a little bit about the area. Just like any other larger city, you are going to have a diverse range of fans of a lot of schools.

You think Nashville is all Orange? Hell, half of middle tn is crimson.

Whatever portion of Middle Tennessee that's crimson is that way because it's people from Memphis/West Tenn that moved here. I'm not even slightly kidding. As for Nashville, despite the recent influx of SEC grads from throughout the South the city itself is still solidly Vol country and no one else is really close.

Anyone that doesn't believe me didn't attend the Vanderbilt game in Nashville this year. The entire town was painted orange that day.

Ever been to a TN game at the Liberty Bowl? I guess they are all Nashvilleans too.

I don't know what part of rural West Tennessee any of you ever lived in but I very rarely saw anyone wearing anything but Orange...

One search has Marlon Walls as Memphis...so I posted his name, then saw him cited as Olive Branch Miss, edited him out, went back to check and he is listed as Memphis on several sites. Anyone know for sure? Now I'm curious:)

First edit: Oops, Bad google search:blink: wrong player

Yes, he is from Memphis. I believe he transferred to Olive Branch High School his senior year. That is not uncommon because OBHS is very good in football.

Seriously? NW Tennessee is major Big Orange Country. Even Tipton County just north of Memphis has a lot of UT fans.

Don't know how many times I have to state this, but Memphis has a lot of Vols fans. The alumni group in Shelby County is probably one of the biggest. Don't understand why people say otherwise. Nashville and the surrounding area is growing because people are moving from other parts of the south, too.

Rural West TN is Vol country. The city itself, and probably Jackson, Germantown, Collierville, and most of the other suburbs are a mixed bag.

I'll give you that NW Tennessee (anywhere north of the city, really) and most of rural West Tenn. are orange. I didn't clarify well enough in my original post. But I'm speaking from personal experience with my friends and acquaintances when I say that 4 out of 5 people from the Memphis proper area now living in Middle Tennessee would tell you they root for Bama, Ole Miss, Texas, or Mississippi State, with Bama making up a solid majority of that group.

Most of them are undisputed bandwagoners who will probably be rooting for Tennessee in the next few years, but still.

They are backtracking, making up statistics and are hanging themselves. They realize how ridiculous they sound now.

They can recruit all they want I'm just saying for Tennessee recent history shows we will be better off using our resources elsewhere. Even Ole Miss which gets the majority of "elite" Memphis talent has no one outstanding from Memphis on their roster.

The entire Ole Miss offensive backfield this past year was from Tennessee, 3 from Memphis. Sure, 2 are transferring, but I believe it's for more playing time. Walton and Wilkins still play for them.

Plus, Eric Still's son, from MUS was their starting center. I believe Dooley refused to recruit him, but you know he would have played at UT if offered.

That is an unscientific poll if I have ever seen one. I am sure there are some people moving from the Memphis area to the Nashville area, but the mid state area is growing from people moving from outside the state.

I grew up in the Memphis suburbs and went to UT. The East TN bias is simply absurd. There is huge support here in Memphis; we just need to get back to winning. You don't always show your colors when you are getting pummeled every weekend by some if your neighbor's teams.

The poor man's elitist attitude of some East Tennessee residents toward Memphis, that they know little to nothing about, is laughable at best.

You obviously didn't read that because your Attention Deficit has kicked in or you are dyslexic...so I tried to highlight it...as for your "moron" statement...does that include you as well?
