I never say it didn’t have some importance, but it’s not even a Top 5 game on our schedule if you wanna go by those metrics and a solid case could be made that it’s likely not even Top 10 of importance.
That's fine, I don't want to get in a back and forth on where exactly this game ranks although I would consider it top 10 in "importance". All I'm saying is it is definitely important and I would argue very important as it relates to making the tournament and seeding since Quad 1 wins are a huge metric for the selection committee. Compound that with Memphis being down two starters, one of which is their best player and potential #1 draft pick, and if the Vols don't win at home it's very easy to argue that's a huge missed opportunity. So stating it has very little importance is just not true.

Florida.? They’re still getting crazy love, for some reason. Haha It’s not just about their current ranking I don’t think.(probably should have known before I replied to your post)
No I was waiting for a reply like this. You think we can't lose? So the more the merrier. Next?

It depends on what each person classifies as more important, ranked wins or conference wins. I don't think Tennessee is going to win the SEC this year, so personally this win is more important both as a fan and for seeding purposes. After Tennessee, Memphis has a pretty crap schedule the rest of the year, and once they get Wisemen back they might not lose another game. So winning Saturday could potentially end up being a Top-10 victory by season's end.
This guy gets it...

KY 2 games - + Auburn x 2 and Kansas - there are 5 games vs ranked teams - then MEMPHIS ranked 13
Of course it's important for the season - the seedings - and ranking
It is possible Florida or Arkansas could move up in the rankings by the time we play but for right now those 6 games give us the best opportunity to move up in every metric that matters for NCAA tournament seeding.

You’re disregarding games already played? Remember away and neutral count WAY more than home.

Quit making excuses and play the game with the deck you have.

When did I whine about it being unfair we don’t have Wiseman? Of course you play with what’s available and it is what it is. Now intelligently tell me how Wiseman’s and Lester’s absence doesn’t create an increased opportunity for UT to get a quality win over a team projected to be highly ranked at the end of the year? That’s all I’m saying, is that it’s important that UT take advantage of this game, because it’s important to their season and postseason opportunities.

I think this game tomorrow means more to UT in the recruiting angle as CRB and his staff focus on getting a few more potential Memphis players to look at UT while Hardaway recruits Memphis heavily and then cherry picks from the best players nation wide according to an article in today's KNS.

Gets it for sure, funny how some of our diehards cant grasp this. I also thought FSU wouldve been big but isnt a bad loss. We cant and i mean cant lose to. Memphis, cincy, and wisconsin or we are done for sure. Beat these guys at home in a huge game and it $parks some momentum that could win us out in this stretch.

NO - I do not disregard them and despite playing Washington in Toronto and FSU (loss) and VCU on a tournament neutral court, Memphis is still higher-ranked at present than either Washington or VCU. Washington was ranked 20 and VCU 21 without the loss to Purdue at the time of our games
So Memphis is still #6 on the list as far as games of importance even with it being at home and the others on "neutral" courts.
I don't see any reason for your or anyone else to try to downplay the significance of this game with Memphis - ESPN seems to think it worthy of extra publicity
MEMPHIS - TENNESSEE FUTURE STOCK VALUE so what's the point of trying to downplay this or any other opponent?

With Pruitt being around so much, all the kids are talking about UT, basketball, etc.

Don't even try to argue or debate them. They'll never get it.
